Physics-based models of electrochemical cells are of great interest for the future battery management systems (BMSs), due to their accuracy and capability to predict cell physical states. One of their main disadvantages, when compared to equivalent circuit ...

Accurate models capable to predict the dynamic behavior and the State-of-Charge (SoC) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) is a key aspect for the definition of model-based controls in electric vehicles and in power grid applications of these energy s ...

The ageing behaviour of electric double layer (EDLC) supercapacitors during over-temperature and over-voltage stresses is described. Specific experimental tests were carried out in order to reproduce, under laboratory controlled conditions, the above-menti ...

This paper focuses on the prediction of temperature profiles on the surface of lithium-ion cells using a non-parametric method. In particular, this paper proposes the adoption of the impulse response technique to compute and interpret cell surface temperat ...

The objective of this paper is to analyze the value of energy replacement in the context of demand response. Energy replacement is defined as the possibility of the consumer to choose the most convenient source for providing space heating to a smart buildi ...

We describe a process to dispatch the operation of a medium voltage distribution feeder and improve its quality-of-service using a battery energy storage system (BESS). It is organized according to a day-ahead and intra-day structure to allow the integrati ...

Within the context of the electrical circuit modeling of batteries, this paper proposes an improvement of the most common electric equivalent circuit used for Lithium cells. The main improvement is based on the modeling of the so-called charge redistributi ...

The paper proposes a study of the phenomenology driving the ageing mechanisms of electrochemical double layer supercapacitors (SCs) during their most common operating conditions. In particular, the paper focuses on the so-called life endurance (LE) and pow ...

This paper focuses on the description of the behavior of supercapacitors during over-temperature and over-voltage stresses and the consequent ageing processes. Specific physical evidences supporting the explanation of the experimental findings are provided ...

This paper focuses on the prediction of temperature profiles on the surface of Lithium-ion cells. In particular, the paper proposes the adoption of the impulse response technique to predict cell surface temperatures consequent to generic discharge conditio ...

The paper presents a set of experimental investigations related to the study of the dynamic behavior of supercapacitors. The experimentally-inferred results are then used as inputs for an improved version of one of the most common supercapacitor RC-circuit ...

The paper describes a heuristic method for the ultra-short-term computation of prediction intervals (PIs) for photovoltaic (PV) power generation. The method allows for directly forecasting the AC active power output of a PV system by simply extracting info ...

This paper proposes a real-time decentralized control algorithm in multi-area active distribution network relying only on dispersed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). In particular, we propose a zonal control strategy targeting voltage support and lin ...

The paper presents a centralized real-time adaptive and model-based voltage control algorithm for Active Distribution Networks (ADNs). Differently from the available literature, the proposed algorithm merely relies on the control of Battery Energy Storage ...

This second part of the paper proposes a model for predicting the State-of-Health (SOH) of electrochemical double layers supercapacitors (SCs) during combined high-pulsed power cycling and high-temperature life endurance stresses. The evolutions of the SC ...

We propose an ultra-short-term dynamic interval predictor (DIP) of solar irradiance. Our DIP relies on experimentally observed correlations between the derivative of the solar irradiance and the forecast error in the next time-step. The main originalities ...

This paper describes a first prototype harvesting the acoustic energy using electrochemical storage devices. In particular, the harvesting system is composed by an Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC) suitably coupled with an electroacoustic abso ...

The paper presents a set of experimental investigations related to the dynamic behavior of supercapacitors. The experimentally observed results are then used as inputs for the development of an improved version of one of the most common supercapacitor RC-e ...

Medical X-ray power generator system comprising an energy storage section comprising at least one battery unit and at least one supercapacitor (SC) unit, wherein the SC unit and the battery unit are connected in a way as to allow a bidirectional exchange o ...

This paper proposes a new experimental investigation of the ageing mechanisms of super capacitors. Starting from the main ageing mechanisms of these devices reported in the literature, the paper proposes a suitably developed procedure aimed at evaluating t ...
