Hydrogenolysis of C-O bonds is a highly challenging reaction with the most efficient catalysts based on bimetallic assemblies. Systematic studies to identify the optimum metal combination have not been performed and, therefore, we designed a method to scre ...

Platform chemicals are usually derived from petrochemical feedstocks. A sustainable alternative commences with lignocellulosic biomass, a renewable feedstock, but one that is highly challenging to process. Ionic liquids (ILs) are able to solubilize biomass ...

Green house gas emissions, the depleting of non-renewable resources, and poor waste management have a detrimental environmental and socioeconomic impact. Consequantly, the development of alternative processes that alleviate these problems is imperative. Ap ...

In this article we highlight some of the recent developments in the aqueous-phase hydrogenation of alkenes and arenes. The traditional types of water-soluble catalysts applied in aqueous media are outlined together with recent trends towards the developmen ...

Platinum nanoparticles stabilized by an imidazolium-based cross-linked polymer (with chloride as the counteranion) efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to form 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid in water under mild conditions with oxygen ...

Charge-assisted hydrogen bonds (CAHBs) play critical roles in many systems from biology through to materials. In none of these areas has the role and function of CAHBs been explored satisfactorily because of the lack of data on the energy of CAHBs in the c ...

Severe general toxicity issues blight many chemotherapeutics utilized in the treatment of cancers, resulting in the need for more selective drugs able to exert their biological activity at only the required location(s). Toward this aim, we report the devel ...

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a key platform chemical that may be obtained from various cellulosic (biomass) derivatives. Previously, it has been shown that ionic liquids (ILs) facilitate the catalytic conversion of glucose into HMF. Herein, we demonstr ...

The invention provides ionic polymers (IP) consisting of anions and a polymeric backbone containing cations. The invention also provides the ionic polymers incorporated in membranes or attached to solid supports and use of the ionic polymers in processing ...
