The kidney's inherent complexity has made identifying cell-specific pathways challenging, particularly when temporally associating them with the dynamic pathophysiology of acute kidney injury (AKI). Here, we combine renal cell-specific luciferase reporter ...

Depletion of mitochondrial copper, which shifts metabolism from respiration to glycolysis and reduces energy production, is known to be effective against cancer types that depend on oxidative phosphorylation. However, existing copper chelators are too toxi ...

Objective The management of occult lymph node metastasis (LNM) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma has been a matter of controversy for decades. The vascular density within the tumor microenvironment, as an indicator of ongoing angiogenesis, could con ...

Peptides constitute an important class of drugs for the treatment of multiple metabolic, ontological, and neurodegenerative diseases, and several hundred novel therapeutic peptides are currently in the preclinical and clinical stages of development. Howeve ...

High-grade gliomas (HGG) are the most common and most aggressive primary tumors of the brain. Despite recent advances in neuro-oncology survival of these tumors remains around 12-15 months. The first-line of treatment is surgical resection. However, due to ...

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a form of vitamin B3 and is one of the most studied compounds for the restoration of cellular NAD+ levels demonstrating clinical potential in many metabolic and age-related disorders. Despite its wide commercial availability a ...

The present invention relates to precursor molecules for the synthesis of D-luciferin, or blocked D-luciferin and derivatives thereof, which are functionalized in different positions. Further, the use of functionalized precursor molecules for the synthesis ...

Mitochondrial membrane potential (Delta Psi(m)) is a universal selective indicator of mitochondrial function and is known to play a central role in many human pathologies, such as diabetes mellitus, cancer and Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Here, we ...

Glucose is a major source of energy for most living organisms, and its aberrant uptake is linked to many pathological conditions. However, our understanding of disease-associated glucose flux is limited owing to the lack of robust tools. To date, positron- ...

Alterations in hepatic free fatty acid (FFA) uptake and metabolism contribute to the development of prevalent liver disorders such as hepatosteatosis. However, detecting dynamic changes in FFA uptake by the liver in live model organisms has proven difficul ...

in vivo bioluminescence imaging (BLi) is an optical molecular imaging technique used to visualize molecular and cellular processes in health and diseases and to follow the fate of cells with high sensitivity using luciferase-based gene reporters. The high ...

The microbiome-produced enzyme bile salt hydrolase (BSH) plays a central role in human health, but its function remains unclear due to the lack of suitable methods for measuring its activity. Here, we have developed a novel optical tool based on ultrasensi ...

The invention relates to a technique to detect small molecules using Bioluminescence imaging (BLI) to image and quantify non-invasively, in vitro and in vivo, intracellular metabolite fluxes and which can be applied to azido-modified compounds, such as azid ...

Compositions and methods for non-invasively monitoring the intracellular processing of a biomolecule are provided. The compositions have a novel thio-luciferin moiety which can be conjugated to the biomolecule directly or via a linker such as disulfide bon ...

Bioluminescent imaging (BLI) is one of the most powerful and widely used preclinical imaging modalities. However, the current technology relies on the use of transgenic luciferase-expressing cells and animals and therefore can only be applied to a limited ...

The application provides fluorescent dyes, which are cyanine dyes that incorporate additional aza moieties in the indolenium heterocycles and/or in the methine chains connecting them. Symmetrical and unsymmetrical chemically reactive azacyanine dyes are de ...

Aminopeptidases, such as dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4, CD26), are potent therapeutic targets for pharmacological interventions because they play key roles in many important pathological pathways. To analyze amino-peptidase activity in vitro (including hig ...

The ability of white and brown adipose tissue to efficiently take up long-chain fatty acids is key to their physiological functions in energy storage and thermogenesis, respectively. Several approaches have been taken to determine uptake rates by cultured ...

A system for monitoring biological processes in vivo is provided. The system comprises an implantable luciferase biosensor comprising luciferase in a biocompatible matrix and a caged luciferin probe. The caged luciferin probe can be administered to a livin ...
