The accurate prediction of transmural stresses in arterial walls requires on the one hand robust and efficient numerical schemes for the solution of boundary value problems including fluid-structure interactions and on the other hand the use of a material ...

This thesis addresses the development and implementation of efficient and parallel algorithms for the numerical simulation of Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) problems in hemodynamics. Indeed, hemodynamic conditions in large arteries are significantly aff ...

We present the first steps to develop radiation sensors based on the graphene field effect transistor technology. Such a sensor exploits the ambipolar behavior of graphene near its Dirac point and it is not dependent on collecting charges, but it senses io ...

Modeling Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) in the vascular system is mandatory to reliably compute mechanical indicators in vessels undergoing large deformations. In order to cope with the computational complexity of the coupled 3D FSI problem after discre ...

We study a nonlinear fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problem between an incompressible, viscous fluid and a composite elastic structure consisting of two layers: a thin layer (membrane) in direct contact with the fluid, and a thick layer (3D linearly ela ...

We consider the numerical simulation of integrated heart models for the study of the cardiac functioning with particular emphasis on the coupling of the muscle contraction, the fluid dynamics of the left ventricle, and the interaction with the valves. We a ...

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with a fivefold increase in the risk of cerebrovascular events, being responsible of 15-18% of all strokes. The morphological and functional remodeling of the left atrium (LA) caused by AF favors blood stasis and, con ...

We present some recent advances and improvements in shape parametrisation techniques of interfaces for reduced-order modelling with special attention to fluid-structure interaction problems and the management of structural deformations, namely, to represen ...

In this work we address the numerical solution of large scale fluid-structure interaction problems when nonconforming grids and⁄or nonconforming finite elements discretizations are used at the interface separating the fluid and structure physical domains. ...

We are interested in the approximation of partial differential equations on domains decomposed into two (or several) subdomains featuring non-conforming interfaces. The non-conformity may be due to different meshes and/or different polynomial degrees used ...

In this paper, we propose a semi-implicit approach for the time discretization of the Navier–Stokes equations with Variational Multiscale-Large Eddy Simulation turbulence modeling (VMS-LES). For the spatial approximation of the problem, we use the Finite E ...

In this paper we propose a rescaled localized radial basis function (RL-RBF) interpolation method, based on the use of compactly supported radial basis functions. Starting from the classical RBF interpolation technique, we introduce a rescaling that allows ...

LifeV is a library for the finite element (FE) solution of partial differential equations in one, two, and three dimensions. It is written in C++ and designed to run on diverse parallel architectures, including cloud and high performance computing faciliti ...
