The ontogeny of brain-tumor-associated macrophages is poorly understood. New findings indicate that both resident microglia and blood-derived monocytes generate the pool of macrophages that infiltrate brain tumors of either primary or metastatic origin. ...

The present invention relates to engineered extra-cellular vesicle internalizing receptors that have the ability to enhance uptake, processing, and presentation to T-cells of tumor-associated antigens by an antigen-presenting cell. It further relates to ve ...

Biosensors are indispensable tools for public, global, and personalized healthcare as they provide tests that can be used from early disease detection and treatment monitoring to preventing pandemics. We introduce single-wavelength imaging biosensors capab ...

Tumor-infiltrating macrophages typically promote angiogenesis while suppressing antitumoral T cell responses. In this issue of Cancer Cell, Klug and colleagues report that clinically-feasible, low-dose irradiation redirects macrophage differentiation from ...

Macrophages facilitate tumour progression, but it is unclear whether this capability is influenced by tumour-initiating cells. Glioblastoma stem cells are now shown to secrete periostin, a matrix protein that recruits protumoral macrophages and enhances gl ...

Angiogenic blood vessels contribute to generating an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, in part by limiting the extravasation of T cells. Functional reprogramming of angiogenic blood vessels, for example through angiopoietin-2 blockade, may improve ...

Tumor-induced vascular alterations in distant organs have been linked to the spreading of cancer. In this issue of Cell Reports, He et al. (2019) show that targeting the cytokine LIGHT to the pulmonary vasculature prevents the establishment of lung metasta ...

Tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells are involved in crucial processes during tumor development. A subset of monocytes that express the angiopoietin receptor Tie2 play an important role in tumor angiogenesis. Selective depletion of these Tie2-expressing monocy ...

The genus Analleucosma Antoine, 1989 is known from northeastern and southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo and a few localities in East Africa; it currently comprises three similar species, all very scarce in collections. Here I describe a new species, ...

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) promote key processes in tumor progression, like angiogenesis, immunosuppression, invasion, and metastasis. Increasing studies have also shown that TAMs can either enhance or antagonize the antitumor efficacy of cytotoxi ...

We here review the taxonomic standing of several generic names in the African Cetoniinae and re-establish Coelorrhina Burmeister, 1842 (= Cyprolais Thomson 1880 syn. nov.) as the first available name for Cetonia quadrimaculata Fabricius, 1781. ...

Mutations in APC promote colorectal cancer (CRC) progression through uncontrolled WNT signaling. Patients with desmoplastic CRC have a significantly worse prognosis and do not benefit from chemotherapy, but the mechanisms underlying the differential respon ...

Macrophages modulate tumor response to chemotherapy; in this issue, Lossos and colleagues show that high-dose alkylating agents instigate a synthetic lethal program in lymphoma cells that is independent of DNA damage and involves recruitment and priming of ...

Tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells promote tumor progression by mediating angiogenesis, tumor cell intravasation and metastasis, which can offset the effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and anti-angiogenic therapy. Here, we show that the kinase switch contro ...

Disclosed herein are engineered progenitor cells and methods of using the same. Also disclosed herein are engineered cells differentiated from engineered progenitor cells of the present disclosure. Also disclosed herein are methods of treating a condition ...

There is a growing interest in understanding the complex interactions between bone marrow-derived myeloid-lineage cells and angiogenesis in tumors. Such interest has been revived recently by the observation that tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells convey proa ...

Lymphatic vasculature is crucial for metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC); however, cellular and molecular drivers controlling lymphovascular metastasis are poorly understood. We define a macrophage-dependent signaling cascade that facilitate ...

The subgenus Stephanorrhina (Aphelorrhina) Westwood, 1843 is studied and revised. The analysis of type material and original descriptions has revealed a number of misidentifications, which are corrected herein. S. (A.) haroldi Kolbe 1892 bona sp. is reinst ...
