Atomic layer deposition (ALD) was used to modify two different types of carbon black-based Pt oxygen reduction catalysts with protective TiO2 nanostructures to increase catalyst durability. Rates of ALD growth and the structure of deposited TiO2 were obser ...

We present a systematic approach to the design of a set of high-flux solar simulators (HFSSs) for solar thermal, thermochemical, and materials research. The generic simulator concept consists of an array of identical radiation modules arranged in concentri ...

This article addresses the challenges presented by photoelectrochemical solar fuels technology in a discussion that begins with a functioning device and proceeds to the more fundamental science of its component parts. In this flow of discussion issues are ...

Water-splitting devices that operate with humid air feeds are an attractive alternative for hydrogen production as the required water input can be obtained directly from ambient air. This article presents a novel proof-of-concept microfluidic platform that ...

We developed a validated numerical model capable of predicting the photocurrent-voltage characteristics of oxide and oxynitride particle-based photoelectrodes and identifying the critical parameters affecting the performance of those photoelectrodes. We us ...

The present invention relates to a photo-electrochemical device for production of a gas, liquid or solid using concentrated electromagnetic irradiation. The device comprises a photovoltaic component configured to generate charge carriers from the concentra ...

This study establishes a theoretical framework to elucidate the impact of gas bubble evolution dynamics on the reaction overpotentials in electrolytic hydrogen and oxygen production. By distinguishing between ohmic, activation, and concentration overpotent ...

Increasingly vast research efforts are devoted to the development of materials and processes for solar hydrogen production by light-driven dissociation of water into oxygen and hydrogen. Storage of solar energy in chemical bonds resolves the issues associa ...

The inter-particle charge transfer of particle-based photoelectrodes was investigated using a particle-based LaTiO2N photoelectrode as model system. The thickness-dependent front- to back-side illumination photocurrent ratio was measured and compared to th ...

The development of practical solar-driven electrochemical fuel generators requires the integration of light absorbing and electrochemical components into an architecture that must also provide easy separation of the product fuels. Unfortunately, many of th ...

A PCM-based heat exchanger is disclosed, said phase change material (PCM)-based heat exchanger comprising: a) a case having insulated walls comprising an inlet and an outlet; and b) a plurality of modules comprising a support structure containing a phase c ...

Advancing towards alternative technologies for the sustainable production of hydrogen is a necessity for the successful integration of this potentially green fuel in the future. Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting are promising concepts ...

A major renewable-energy milestone occurred in 2022: Photovoltaics (PV) exceeded a global installed capacity of 1 TWdc. But despite considerable growth and cost reduction over time, PV is still a small part of global electricity generation (4 to 5% for 202 ...
