Interferometers are essential tools for measuring and shaping optical fields, widely used in optical metrology, sensing, laser physics, and quantum mechanics. They superimpose waves with a mutual phase delay, modifying light intensity. A frequency-dependen ...

Electro-optic modulators are essential for sensing, metrology and telecommunications. Most target fiber applications. Instead, metasurface-based architectures that modulate free-space light at gigahertz (GHz) speeds can boost flat optics technology by micr ...

This talk will discuss recent advances in the nascent field of integrated photonic circuits for terahertz applications. This field explores photonic circuit technology to create miniaturized terahertz emitters and detectors by non-linear optical processes ...

Bridging the "terahertz gap" relies upon synthesizing arbitrary waveforms in the terahertz domain enabling applications that require both narrow band sources for sensing and few-cycle drives for classical and quantum objects. However, realization of custom ...

Optical resonators enable the generation, manipulation, and storage of electromagnetic waves. The physics underlying their operation is determined by the interference of electromagnetic waves, giving rise to the resonance spectrum. This mechanism causes th ...

We demonstrate tunable dispersion compensation of femtosecond pulses at telecom wavelengths for broadband Terahertz generation in 7.5-meter fiber link using a Silicon prism pair. The prism pair enhances the amplitude of the THz E-field in InGaAs photocondu ...

Photonic integrated circuits have benefited many fields in the natural sciences. Their nanoscale patterning has led to the discovery of novel sources and detectors from ultraviolet to microwaves. Yet terahertz technologies have so far leveraged surprisingl ...

Cavities concentrate light and enhance its interaction with matter. Confining to microscopic volumes is necessary for many applications but space constraints in such cavities limit the design freedom. Here we demonstrate stable optical microcavities by cou ...

In this work, we propose a numerical approach based on forward coupled mode modeling to simultaneously evaluate second- and third-order nonlinearities inside a dispersion-engineered waveguide towards the goal of generating broadband terahertz (THz) radiati ...

Modern communication and sensing technologies connect the optical domain with the microwave domain. Accessing the terahertz region from 100 GHz to 10 THz is critical for providing larger bandwidths capabilities. Despite progress in integrated electronics, ...

We discuss electro-optic modulators from flat optics that change the intensity of light at speeds up to the microwaves. We employ a hybrid platform that combines silicon-silica nanoresonators with an electro-optic organic coating that maximizes the interac ...

The Terahertz (THz) frequency domain lies between the realms of microwave and optics, with frequencies conventionally spanning the 0.1-10 THz spectral range [1]. Many commercially-available THz systems routinely exploits optical down/up conversion mechanis ...

The terahertz (THz) frequency region (0.1-10 THz) between microwaves and infrared, holds significant potential across various fields such as communication, sensing, and spectroscopy. Conventional THz systems for broadband emission and detection remain bulk ...

High-frequency electro-magnetic waves, including millimeter wave (mmWave) and terahertz, represent a frontier of research with transformative potentials in next-generation wireless communication, advanced sensing and imaging, and quantum science and applic ...

Tunable electro-optic metasurfaces have proven to be excellent platforms when it comes to compact and fast modulation of free space light [1] which makes them relevant for applications like coherent laser ranging[2] and fast spatial light modulators. In th ...

We propose an innovative design for an integrated, low-loss on-chip terahertz (THz) field detector based on hybrid silicon-organic slot waveguides and THz antennas. We perform a numerical study of the dependency of electro-optic interaction on geometrical ...

We present emission up to 3 THz from a phase-matched terahertz-optical photonic circuit, featuring a co-planar metallic cavity traversed by an optical rib waveguide and a dipolar antenna for efficient out-coupling of terahertz waves. ...

Full characterization of electric-field waveforms in amplitude and phase is achieved across the terahertz to visible spectral range through interaction with an optical pulse shorter than a half-cycle period via the Pockels (linear electro-optic) effect. Th ...

In this work, we show the coherent reconstruction of terahertz (THz) transients in thin-film lithium niobate integrated photonics circuits. Our devices modulate the intensity of a probe beam guided through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure, und ...

We present an on-chip interface between terahertz and near-infrared fields for time-resolved THz detection. The double-confinement of the probe-signal inside a waveguide and the terahertz field inside a gold antenna increases the nonlinear interaction. The ...
