In vibration-based structural health monitoring, changes in the natural frequency of a structure are used to identify changes in the structural conditions due to damage and deterioration. However, natural frequency values also vary with changes in environm ...

To identify physical parameters of a large structural system, the computational challenges in dealing with a large number of unknowns are formidable. A divide-and-conquer approach is often required to partition the structural system into many substructures ...

A hard challenge associated with infrastructure monitoring is to extract useful information from large amounts of measurement data in order to detect changes in structures. This paper presents a hybrid model-free approach that combines two model-free metho ...

Measurement system configuration is an important task in structural health monitoring in that decisions influence the performance of monitoring systems. This task is generally performed using only engineering judgment and experience. Such approach may resu ...

Interpreting measurement data from continuous monitoring of civil structures for structural health monitoring (SHM) is a challenging task. This task is even more difficult when measurement data are influenced by environmental variations, such as temperatur ...

Ultra High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC) is increasingly popular for new structural designs thanks to its high resistance both in tension and compression. When UHPFRC is complemented with steel reinforcing bars or prestressin ...

Interpreting measurement data to extract meaningful information for damage detection is a challenge for continuous monitoring of structures. This paper presents an evaluation of two model-free data interpretation methods: moving principal component analysi ...

This paper presents a new model-free data-interpretation approach for damage detection of bridges using long-term monitoring data. The approach combines two model-free methods: Moving Principal Component Analysis (MPCA) and Robust Regression Analysis (RRA) ...

Despite the recent advances in sensor technologies and data-acquisition systems, interpreting measurement data for structural monitoring remains a challenge. Furthermore, because of the complexity of the structures, materials used, and uncertain environmen ...

In order to achieve reliable information about deterioration, it is important to differentiate between changes in structural behaviour due to service loading (temperature, wind and traffic) and changes resulting from damage when interpreting measurement da ...

Designing a measurement system is usually performed using only engineering judgment and experience. Thus, it may result in either a large amount of redundant data or insufficient data leading to ambiguous results. This paper presents a systematic approach ...

Structural health monitoring has increasingly become a hot research topic for engineering structures. While much improvement has been made in advances of sensing, communication and computer technologies, identification of structural parameters based on vib ...

A good measurement system improves capability to identify the behavior of civil engineering structures. This paper presents a measurement-system design approach for continuous monitoring of structures. This approach performs two tasks: (1) determining the ...

This paper presents the design and construction of the Aiguillon railway bridge in Switzerland, one of the first railway bridges completely made of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRC). The length and width of the trough ...
