The assessment of the risks exerted by nanoparticles is a key challenge for academic, industrial, and regulatory communities worldwide. Experimental evidence points towards significant toxicity for a range of nanoparticles both in vitro and in vivo. Worldw ...

The custom script was written based on Fiji for measuring the number or size of stress granules inside fixed cells (using a fixed threshold) or live cells (using a local maximum). It allows the batch image data processing for the study of the effects of di ...

Protein-based materials are biocompatible and have a variety of remarkable properties; consequently, they are finding more and more applications. Nature recycles proteins in multiple ways, ranging from bio-degradation (a slow approach) to fast recycling of ...

The present invention relates to a method for the diagnosis of cancer in a sample of cholesterol-rich lipoprotein nanoparticles obtained from a test subject comprising (α) determining the size distribution or the fractogram in chromatography of the cholest ...

In this Progress Report some recent trends and future perspectives towards the use of nanomaterials for smart food packaging and quality control of food are given. The examples and discussion are meant to illustrate the potential use of nanotechnology for ...

Surface heterogeneity plays an important role in controlling colloidal phenomena. This study investigated the self-aggregation and bacterial adsorption of self-assembled monolayer coated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with different surface compositional and s ...

Monodispersity is a key property to control the self-assembly of colloidal particles, and is typically reached after fine-tuning of the synthesis conditions. Monodisperse particle fractions can also be separated from polydisperse suspensions via ultracentr ...

Nanoparticle-based magnetic resonance imaging T-2 negative agents are of great interest, and much effort is devoted to increasing cell loading capability while maintaining low cytotoxicity. Herein, two classes of mixed-ligand protected magnetic-responsive, ...

Laboratory automation requires reliable and precise handling of microplates, but existing robotic systems often struggle to achieve this, particularly when navigating around the dynamic and variable nature of laboratory environments. This work introduces a ...

Ligand-protected gold nanoparticles exhibit large local curvatures, features rapidly varying over small scales, and chemical heterogeneity. Their imaging by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) can, in principle, provide direct information on the architectu ...

Electrostatically stabilized monolayer shells of metal-oxide cluster anions (polyoxometalates, or POMs) on the surfaces of ca. 8 nm tetrahedral and octahedral gold nanocrystals regioselectively direct water-soluble alkanethiolate ligands to the corners and ...

We present herein silver nanoparticles about 4 nm in diameter coated with a binary mixture of 1-octanethiol and 2-(2-{2-[(6-mercaptohexyl)oxy]ethoxy}ethoxy)ethanol. These particles show an affinity towards optically active Eu3+ ions. The effect of the nano ...

At the interface with solids, the mobility of liquid molecules tends to be reduced compared with bulk, often resulting in increased local order due to interactions with the surface of the solid. At room temperature, liquids such as water and methanol can f ...

Nanomedicine requires in-depth knowledge of nanoparticle-protein interactions. These interactions are studied with methods limited to large or fluorescently labelled nanoparticles as they rely on scattering or fluorescence-correlation signals. Here, we hav ...

To date, antisolvent treatment has become one of the most important means to fabricate high efficiency perovskite solar cells (PSCs); however, the few reported antisolvents have not been analyzed on a uniform platform, and there is hitherto no clear reason ...

We develop a membrane technology based on amyloid fibrils to remove aluminium from water and minimize its exposure to humans. We study aluminium adsorption by amyloid fibrils by evaluating the binding isotherms, the thermodynamics and the effects of differ ...

Compounds, compositions and methods that can be used for the treatment of viral diseases are provided. ...
