The dynamic electric autonomous Dial-a-Ride Problem (e-ADARP) is a generalization ofthe dial-a-ride problem which employs electric Autonomous Vehicles (e-AVs) to provide sharedrides to on-line requests. The goal of the dynamic e-ADARP is to maximize the nu ...

The concept of the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) is elegant and attractive because it provides a global view of traffic behavior and performance at a network level. However, recent research shows that the MFD shape can be influenced by local traffi ...

Perimeter control schemes proposed to alleviate congestion in large-scale urban networks usually assume perfect knowledge of the accumulation state and inflow demands, both requiring information about the origins and destinations of drivers. Such assumptio ...

The new era of “big data” requires going past the current conventional methods for gathering traffic information that until now depend either on fixed-area sensors or GPS devices. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or just "drones" have been proposed as a moder ...

Cruising-for-parking constraints mobility in urban networks. Car-users may have to cruise for on-street parking before reaching their destinations. The accessibility and the cost of parking significantly influence people's travel behavior (such as mode cho ...

Both ride-hailing services and electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and it is likely that charging management of the ride-hailing vehicles will be a significant part of the ride-hailing company's operation in the near future. Motivated by th ...

Spatial systems that experience congestion can be modeled as weighted networks whose weights dynamically change over time with the redistribution of flows. This is particularly true for urban transportation networks. The aim of this work is to find appropr ...

Travel time is considered as one of the most important performance measures for roadway systems, and dissemination of travel time information can help travelers to make reliable travel decisions such as route choice or time departure. Since the traffic dat ...

The performance of signalized arterials is related to queuing phenomena. The paper investigates the effect of transitional traffic flow conditions imposed by the formation and dissipation of queues. A cross-recurrence quantification analysis combined with ...

This paper investigates the stability of departure time choice within a population of commuters that need to pass through a bottleneck of constant capacity. It is shown that the corresponding utility function is monotonic if and only if the marginal utilit ...

With the increasing popularity of ride-hailing services, new modes of transportation are having a significant impact on the overall performance of transportation networks. As a result, there is a need to ensure that both the various transportation alternat ...

Semi-autonomous transportation systems are an intermediate step towards full automation of transportation systems. They use and benefit from the technological advances brought by automation while being already implementable at larger scale under the curren ...

Real-time coordinated traffic management strategies that benefit from parsimonious models with aggregated network dynamics, provide a new generation of smart hierarchical strategies to improve network capacity and performance. However, this raises the ques ...

Queues at signalized intersections are the main cause of traffic delays and travel time variability in urban networks. In this article, we propose a method to estimate queue profiles that are traffic shockwave polygons in the time-space plane describing th ...

This research quantifies the relationship between the cost of earliness and lateness by empirically observing commute trips from two different sources. The first empirical analysis uses individual level travel survey data from six metropolitan regions whil ...

In this paper, the effectiveness of network-wide parallel application of perimeter control (PC) and Max Pressure (MP) strategies embedded in a two-layer control framework is assessed in a dynamic traffic simulation environment. With the aim of reducing MP ...

Ride-sourcing platforms, among other solution services, offer convenience and flexibility when it comes to pick-up/drop-off time and location. Similarly, ride-splitting renders itself as an extension of ride-sourcing where platform users agree to share the ...

This paper shows that a macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) relating average flow and average density must exist on any street with blocks of diverse widths and lengths, but no turns, even if all or some of the intersections are controlled by arbitrarily ...
