Conventional chemotherapy leads to severe side-effects such as nephrotoxicity, nausea and vomiting and fatigue along with drug resistance. Alkylating agents used to treat cancer were even shown to provoke second cancers, often years after the end of chemot ...

Two bifunctional ruthenium(II)-p-cymene complexes with perfluorinated side chains, attached via pyridine ligands, have been evaluated in a series of in vitro and in vivo assays. Their effects on human endothelial (ECRF24 and HUVEC) cells, noncancerous huma ...

Hyperthermia used as an adjuvant with chemotherapy is highly promising in the treatment of certain cancers. Currently, the small molecule drugs used in combination with hyperthermia were not designed for this application. Herein, we report the evaluation o ...

A series of thiolate gold(I) derivatives bearing water soluble phosphanes - namely sodium triphenylphosphane monosulfonate (TPPMS), sodium triphenylphosphane trisulfonate (TPPTS), 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) and 3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosp ...

The development of cyclometalated rhodium and iridium complexes from first-and second-generation naphthaldimine-based poly(propyleneimine) dendrimer scaffolds of the type, DAB-(NH2)(n) (where n = 4 or 8, DAB = diaminobutane) has been accomplished. Four met ...

A series of cationic dinuclear p-cymene ruthenium complexes containing three thiolato bridges with different substituents at the sulfur atoms, (eta(6)-p-(MeC6H4Pr)-Pr-i)(2)Ru-2(mu(2)-SR1)(2)(mu(2)-SR2) (R-1 = CH2Ph, R-2 = Ph: 4; R-1 = CH2Ph, R-2 = p-( ...

Following the identification of a ruthenium(II)-arene complex with an ethacrynic acid-modified imidazole ligand, which inhibits glutathione transferase (GST) and is cytotoxic to chemo-resistant cancer cells, a series of structurally related ruthenium(II)- ...

Ruthenium compounds have become promising alternatives to platinum drugs by displaying specific activities against different cancers and favourable toxicity and clearance properties. Nonetheless, their molecular targeting and mechanism of action are poorly ...

New ruthenium(II) arene derivatives (arene = p-cymene, benzene, hexamethylbenzene) containing beta-ketoamine ligands L' (HL' in general; in detail, HLph,ph = (4Z)-3-methyl-4-((phenylamino)(phenyl)methylene)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-one, HLnaph,ph = (4Z)-3 ...

Hyperthermia is currently being explored as an adjuvant treatment to conventional therapies with chemotherapeutic agents based on thermoresponsive macromolecules. Although the concept of hyperthermia has existed for many years it has yet to become routinel ...

Osmium compounds are attracting increasing attention as potential anticancer drugs. In this context, a series of bifunctional organometallic osmium(II)-p-cymene complexes functionalized with alkyl or perfluoroalkyl groups were prepared and screened for the ...

Tridentate cycloplatinated thiosemicarbazone complexes have been prepared from a biologically significant ligand, 3,4-dichloroacetophenone thiosemicarbazone (1). The tetranuclear complex 2 was prepared by reaction of the ligand with K-2[PtCl4]. Two mononuc ...

Following the identification of [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl-2(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl-3-(pyridin-3-yl)propanoate)], a ruthenium(II)arene complex with a perfluoroalkyl-modified ligand that displays remarkable in vitro cancer cell selectivity, a series of stru ...

Chlorambucil (CLB) derivatives with long fluorous (referred to as 1 and 2) or hydrocarbon (3) chains have been evaluated in a series of in vitro and in vivo assays. In cell viability inhibition assays, both derivatives 2 and 3 show selective cytotoxicity t ...

A ruthenium(II)-arene complex with a perfluoroalkyl-ligand was found to display remarkable selectivity toward cancer cells. IC50 values on several cancer cell lines are in the range of 25-45 mu M, and no cytotoxic effect was observed on nontumorigenic (HEK ...

Hexanuclear thiolato-bridged arene ruthenium metalla-prisms of the general formula [(p-cymene)6Ru6(SR)6(tpt)2]6+ (R=CH2Ph, CH2C6H4-p-tBu, CH2CH2Ph; tpt=2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine), obtained from the dinuclear precursors [(p-cymene)2Ru2(SR)2Cl2], ...

Dasatinib is an orally active nonselective tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat certain types of adult leukemia. By inhibiting PDGFR-beta and SFKs in both tumor cells and tumor associated endothelial cells, dasatinib inhibits tumor growth and angiogenes ...

Organometallic ruthenium(II) arene complexes containing the PTA ligand ([Ru(eta(6)-arene)Cl-2(PTA)], PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphatricyclo-[3.3.1.1] decane, termed RAPTA) show pharmacologically relevant antitumour properties in vitro. Two new enantiomeric p ...
