In this work a technique capable to investigate the near-wake stability properties of a wind turbine immersed in the atmospheric boundary layer is presented. Specifically, a 2D local spatial stability analysis is developed in order to take into account typ ...

We present a physics-inspired mathematical model based on successive linear eigenmode projections to solve the relaxation of small-amplitude and two-dimensional viscous capillary-gravity waves with a phenomenological nonlinear contact line model. We show t ...

This paper is associated with a video winner of a 2018 American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics (DFD) Milton van Dyke Award for work presented at the DFD Gallery of Fluid Motion. ...

Many natural materials display locally varying compositions that impart unique mechanical properties to them which are still unmatched by manmade counterparts. Synthetic materials often possess structures that are well-defined on the molecular level, but p ...

We revisit the canonical Rayleigh-Taylor instability and investigate the case of a thin film of fluid upon the underside of an inclined plane. The presence of a natural flow along the plane competes with the conventional droplet forming instability. In par ...

To understand the behavior of composite fluid particles such as nucleated cells and double emulsions in flow, we study a finite-size particle encapsulated in a deforming droplet under shear flow as a model system. In addition to its concentric particle-dro ...

In this paper, we present a dynamic microfluidic tensiometer able to perform measurements over more than four decades and which is suitable for high throughput experimentations. This tensiometer is able to withstand hard conditions such as high pressure, h ...

This article proposes a numerical model for microfluidic two-phase flows in flat channels, also called Hele-Shaw cells. The initially three-dimensional problem is simplified to two-dimensions by depth averaging in the thin direction. The 2D partial differe ...

The wetting dynamics is often considered in the frame of stationary conditions, i.e., when the contact-line advances or recedes at constant velocity. The purpose of many corresponding studies is then to determine a relationship between the contact-line vel ...

The present paper concerns the linear fate of transverse perturbations in a gravity-driven, thin-film flow over a soluble substrate. We propose a reduced-order model, based on a boundary-layer treatment of the solute transport and a depth-integration of th ...

Properties of the unsteady separated flow over a bump mounted on a flat plate are studied experimen- tally, with the aim of characterizing the instabilities of this flow and developing a control strategy. Results from measurements using particle image velo ...

We propose a theoretical approach to derive amplitude equations governing the weakly nonlinear evolution of non-normal dynamical systems, when they experience transient growth or respond to harmonic forcing. This approach reconciles the non-modal nature of ...

Existing linear stability analysis of radial fingering in Hele-Shaw cells use Darcy’s law as a model for the fluid motion. Comparison between experiments and theory reveals a large discrepancy at order 1 capillary numbers. In this work we use the so-called ...
