Assessing emotional states of users evoked during their multimedia consumption has received a great deal of attention with recent advances in multimedia content distribution technologies and increasing interest in personalized content delivery. Physiologic ...

Among various subjective quality evaluation methodologies, paired comparison has the advantage of improved simplicity of the subjects’ evaluation task due to simplified rating scales and direct comparison of two stimuli. Thus, it may lead to more reliable ...

As 3D image and video content has gained significant popularity, subjective 3D quality assessment has become an important issue for the creation, processing, and distribution of high quality 3D content. Reliable subjective quality assessment of 3D content ...

This paper presents a foveated coding method using audio-visual focus of attention and its evaluation through extensive subjective experiments on both standard definition and high definition sequences. Regarding a sound-emitting region as the location draw ...

Over the last few years, social network systems have greatly increased users’ involvement in online content creation and annotation. Since such systems usually need to deal with a large amount of multimedia data, it becomes desirable to realize an interact ...

When human subjects assess the quality of multimedia data, high level perceptual processes such as Focus of Attention (FoA) and eye movements are believed to play an important role in such tasks. While prior art reports incorporation of visual FoA into obj ...

While 3D display technologies are already widely available for cinema and home or corporate use, only a few portable devices currently feature 3D display capabilities. Moreover, the large majority of 3D display solutions rely on binocular perception. In th ...

This paper investigates the influence of the combination of the scalability parameters in scalable video coding (SVC) schemes on the subjective visual quality. We aim at providing guidelines for an adaptation strategy of SVC that can select the optimal sca ...

Scalable video coding is a promising solution for efficient video content distribution to users having heterogeneous network and terminal capabilities. Thanks to its inherent multidimensional adaptability, a scalable bit stream can be used to simultaneousl ...

Understanding Quality of Experience (QoE) in various multimedia contents is still challenging. In this paper, we investigate the way QoE affects brain oscillations captured by electroencephalography (EEG). In particular, sixteen subjects watched 2D and 3D ...

In the past few years sharing photos within social networks has become very popular. In order to make these huge collections easier to explore, images are usually tagged with representative keywords such as persons, events, objects, and locations. In order ...

As immersive technologies target to provide higher quality of multimedia experiences, it is important to understand the quality of experience (QoE) perceived by users from various multimedia rendering schemes, in order to design and optimize human-centric ...

With the rapid growth of digital photography, sharing of photos with friends and family has become very popular. When people share their photos, they usually organize them in albums according to events or places. To tell the story of some important events ...

This paper proposes an efficient video coding method which utilizes audio-visual information, based on the observation that sound-emitting regions in a video sequence attract observer’s attention. The regions responsible for the sound are identified by an ...

Scalable video coding is a powerful solution for content delivery in many interactive multimedia services due to its adaptability to varying terminal and network constraints. In order to successfully exploit such adaptability, it is necessary to understand ...

This paper proposes a new method for bimodal information fusion in audio-visual speech recognition, where cross-modal association is considered in two levels. First, the acoustic and the visual data streams are combined at the feature level by using the ca ...

Content-based video retrieval has become a very active research area in the last decade due to the increasing number of video shared on social networks such as YouTube and Daily-Motion. While most of the content-based video retrieval approaches employ visu ...

With the advances in understanding perceptual properties of the human visual system and constructing their computational models, efforts toward incorporating human perceptual mechanisms in video compression to achieve maximal perceptual quality have receiv ...

3D image and video have become popular since they can enhance the Quality of Experience (QoE) by adding the depth dimension to the traditional 2D media. In order to design and optimize the human-centric 3D multimedia processing techniques, it is important ...

We present a multimodal dataset for the analysis of human affective states. The electroencephalogram (EEG) and peripheral physiological signals of 32 participants were recorded as each watched 40 one-minute long excerpts of music videos. Participants rated ...
