A design procedure for spherical lens antennas is described. A particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is coupled to a mode matching technique based on spherical wave expansion to analyze the lens antennas. The proposed methodology is applied to three ...

The performances of SIW horns antennas diminish significantly when the substrate thickness is much smaller than the free space wavelength lambda(0). Specifically, the mismatch between the antenna aperture and the air yields to unwanted back radiation and p ...

The joint synthesis of the spatial power pattern and polarization of arbitrary arrays is addressed. Specifically, the proposed approach gives the solution to a frequently encountered problem, namely the array design (i.e., the determination of the radiatin ...

A method to synthesize shaped beams with antenna arrays is presented. Specifically, the element excitations are determined such that the array radiates a power pattern that approximates a desired shape. To efficiently solve this problem, an iterative algor ...

A method to design planar multilayer meander-line polarizers is given. The proposed procedure is based on transmission line circuit theory and on full-wave unit cell analysis in frequency domain. The hybrid combination of those two techniques paves the way ...

The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology allows to construct several types of commonly used antennas in a planar way. However, frequency limitations associated to commercial substrates appear in the implementation of certain types of antennas, e ...

An iterative procedure for the synthesis of uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. Specifically, the goal is to optimize the locations of a fixed number of array elements with known excitations in order to synthesize narrow-beam low-sidelobe p ...

The Degree of Non-Linearity (DNL) of scattering problems and specifically of differential Microwave Imaging (dMWI) problems is addressed in this paper. The quantification of the DNL amounts to evaluate the validity range of the Born first order (linear) ap ...

An iterative algorithm to synthesize uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. While the number of array elements and the excitations are fixed and known, the locations of the elements are optimized to radiate a narrow beam low sidelobe pattern. ...

A substrate integrated guide which allows the propagation of both TEm0 and TE0n modes is presented, the Extended Substrate Integrated Waveguide (ESIW). Its structure combines the working principles of SIWs and SINRD guides. While the performances of the ES ...

An iterative procedure for the synthesis of sparse arrays radiating focused or shaped beampattern is presented. The algorithm consists in solving a sequence of weighted l(1) convex optimization problems. The method can thus be readily implemented and effic ...

With the development of generalized connectivity and the increased use of Body Area Networks, wearable antennas have become ubiquitous in the last decade. Their design presents a challenge, as they per definition are located at the interface between free s ...

This paper presents new contributions to forward and inverse problems in 3D differential microwave imaging. This technique is well suited to monitor a pathological evolution, for instance the brain stroke of a patient. The forward problem is solved using a ...
