The problem of fragmentation prediction is at the origin of various analytical models. Among them, we focus on the ones introducing the idea of obscured zones. They assume that when a crack initiates at a defect, a stress release wave propagates away from ...

This paper analyses the fragmentation of kidney stones by direct impact with Swiss Lithoclast Master(R). Based on a previous work, the impact of the probe of the Lithoclast is modeled with a displacement control of the nodes inside the impacted area. Diffe ...

Frictional contacts lead to the formation of a surface layer called the third body, consisting of wear particles and structures resulting from their agglomerates. Its behavior and properties at the nanoscale control the macroscopic tribological performance ...

The spatial distribution of regions that lie above contours of constant height through a self-affine surface is studied as a function of the Hurst exponent H. If the surface represents a landscape, these regions correspond to islands. When the surface repr ...

We present a multiscale coupling method to address contact problems. The components of the model are a molecular dynamics engine, a finite element program and a coupling scheme. We validate the approach, first on Hertzian contact and then with a rough surf ...

We present a multiscale coupling method to address contact problems. The components of the model are a molecular dynamics engine, a finite element program and a coupling scheme. We validate the approach on an Hertzian contact. Various measures are provided ...

We carry out a statistically meaningful study on self-affine rough surfaces in elastic frictionless non-adhesive contact. We study the evolution of the true contact area under increasing squeezing pressure from zero up to full contact, which enables us to ...

We analyze the dynamic failure of concrete using two and three-dimensional finite-element models. In particular, the current results extend, using a unique parallel computing approach, previously published two-dimensional results. Concrete is treated at th ...

The influence of Eigenstresses due to drying shrinkage on the development of residual deformations characterizing the tensile fatigue behavior of concrete is analyzed. During the loading phase the Eigenstresses are locally released around the cracks induci ...

We present a model that combines interface debonding and frictional contact. The onset of fracture is explicitly modeled using the well-known cohesive approach. Whereas the debonding process is controlled by a new extrinsic traction separation law, which a ...

The Discrete element method (DEM) is a robust numerical tool for simulating crack propagation and wear in granular materials. However, the computational cost associated with DEM hinders its applicability to large domains. To address this limitation, we emp ...

We study rapidly accelerating rupture fronts at the onset of frictional motion by performing high-temporal-resolution measurements of both the real contact area and the strain fields surrounding the propagating rupture tip. We observe large-amplitude and l ...

Une approche par équations intégrales volumiques du problème de contact élastoplastique périodique est présentée. Elle repose sur la formulation des fonctions de Green nécessaires au calcul des opérateurs intégraux directement dans l’espace de Fourier. Cel ...
