Hypertension is known to affect around one third of adults globally and early diagnosis is essential to reduce the effects of this affliction. Today’s Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring cuffs are obtrusive and in- convenient for performing regular measurements ...

In the last years, the need for enhancing health and preventing problems with remote monitoring is increasing. A non-invasive low-cost technique for processing bio-signals and monitoring vital parameters, at rest and during physical activity, is the use of ...

This paper presents a novel method for classification of multilead electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The feature extraction is based on the random projection (RP) concept for dimensionality reduction. Furthermore, the classification is performed by a neuro- ...

Personal health monitoring systems are emerging as promising solutions to develop ultra-small, portable devices that can continuously monitor and process several vital body parameters. In this work, we present a wearable device for physical and emotional h ...

Background: Cardiac arrhythmias are very common but underdiagnosed due to their transient and asymptomatic nature. An optimization of arrhythmia detection would permit to better treat patients and could substantially reduce morbidity and mortality. The Sma ...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is one of the main under-diagnosed sleep disorder. It is an aggravating factor for several serious cardiovascular diseases, including stroke. There is, however, a lack of medical devices for long-term ambulatory monitoring of ...

With the emergence of wearable and non-intrusive med- ical devices, one major challenge is the real-time analysis of the acquired signals in real-life and ambulatory con- ditions. This paper presents a lightweight algorithm for on-line heart beat classific ...

Wireless sensor nodes (WSNs) have recently evolved to include a fair amount of computational power, so that advanced signal processing algorithms can now be embedded even in this extremely low-power platforms. An increasingly successful field of applicatio ...

This paper presents the system-level architecture of novel ultra-low power wireless body sensor nodes (WBSNs) for real-time cardiac monitoring and analysis, and discusses the main design challenges of this new generation of medical devices. In particular, ...

A system for measuring blood pressure of a user that comprises an ElectroCardioGram (ECG) circuit with at least two ECG electrodes configured to obtain an electrical activity of a heart of the user by measuring the electrical signals detected at the at lea ...

It is widely recognized today that there is an alarming rise of lifestyle-induced chronic diseases (e.g., type II diabetes) in our society. Therefore, a strong need exists for cost-effective and non-invasive devices that can measure blood pressure (BP) to ...

Among all cardiovascular diseases, congestive heart failure (CHF) has a very high rate of hospitalization and mortality. In order to prevent hospitalization, there is a strong need to identify patients at risk of a CHF event by estimating a set of relevant ...

Background Our goal was to evaluate the performance of a new wearable arm located pulse oximeter. Methods Twelve volunteers were monitored with three pulse oximeters and underwent desaturation to 70% SaO(2). We compared the accuracy of SpO(2) reading from ...

This work is devoted to the evaluation of multilead digital wavelet transform (DWT)-based electrocardiogram (ECG) wave delineation algorithms, which were optimized and ported to a commercial wearable sensor platform. More specifically, we investigate the u ...

Detection and classification of human emotions from multiple bio-signals has a wide variety of applications. Though electronic devices are available in the market today that acquire multiple body signals, the classification of human emotions in real-time, ...

A method for classification of ECG beats into normal and different categories of abnormal beats. The method comprises the following steps, performed on a computing platform: a. performing a training phase comprising taking as an input one or more ECG beats ...

Method for automatic online delineation of an electrocardiogram (ECG) bio signal, said method comprising the detection of said bio signal through several leads followed by the combination of those multiple acquisitions into a single root-mean-squared (RMS) ...

This work presents a new modular and lowcomplexity algorithm for the delineation of the different ECG waves (QRS, P and T peaks, onsets and end). Involving a reduced number of operations per second and having a small memory footprint, this algorithm is int ...
