We use time-resolved x-ray diffraction and magneto-optical Kerr effect to study the laser-induced antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition in FeRh. The structural response is given by the nucleation of independent ferromagnetic domains (tau(1) s ...

Transient changes in the local structure of optically excited Ti3+ ions in a Al2O3 single crystal are studied by time-resolved x-ray absorption spectroscopy. A model considering coupling of the excited E-2(C-3v) electronic state of the Ti3+ ion to the appr ...

We report on the use of grazing-incidence time-resolved x-ray diffraction to investigate the evolution of strain in natural graphite excited by femtosecond-laser pulses in the fluence range of 6-35 mJ/cm(2). Strains corresponding to up to similar to 2.8% c ...

Diatomic ligands in hemoproteins and the way they bind to the active center are central to the protein's function. Using picosecond Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we probe the NO-heme recombination kinetics with direct sensitivity to the Fe-NO bi ...

We experimentally demonstrate efficient switching of the hard x-ray Bragg reflectivity of a SrRuO3 /SrTiO3 superlattice by optical excitation of large-amplitude coherent acoustic superlattice phonons. The rocking curve changes drastically on a 1 ps timesca ...

Steady-state and picosecond time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy is used to study the ground and lowest triplet states of ReX(CO)(3)(bpy), X = Etpy (n = 1), Cl, or Br (n = 0). We demonstrate that the transient spectra at both the Re L3- and Br ...

We apply grazing-incidence femtosecond x-ray diffraction to investigate the details of the atomic motion connected with a displacively excited coherent optical phonon. We concentrate on the low frequency phonon associated with the charge and orbital order ...

The dynamics of TiO2 conduction band electrons were followed with a novel broadband synchrotron-based transient mid-IR spectroscopy setup. The lifetime of conduction band electrons was found to be dependent on the injection method used. Direct band gap exc ...
