Aim: Atomic force microscopy nanoindentation of myofibers was used to assess and quantitatively diagnose muscular dystrophies from human patients. Materials & methods: Myofibers were probed from fresh or frozen muscle biopsies from human dystrophic patient ...

The first experiment showing the effects of specific interaction forces using lateral force microscopy (LFM) was demonstrated for lectin-carbohydrate interactions some years ago. Such measurements are possible under the assumption that specific forces stro ...

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a lethal muscle-wasting disease currently without cure. We investigated the use of the PiggyBac transposon for full-length dystrophin expression in murine mesoangioblast (MABs) progenitor cells. DMD murine MABs were tra ...

Background: The in vivo transfer of naked plasmid DNA into organs such as muscles is commonly used to assess the expression of prophylactic or therapeutic genes in animal disease models. Results: In this study, we devised vectors allowing a tight regulatio ...

We use a single molecule atomic force spectroscopy combined with the steered molecular dynamics simulation to determine a mechanical behavior of neural cell adhesion protein contactin during its unfolding. Force curves typical for modular proteins were obs ...

The expression of N-cadherin, characteristic of various cancers, very often leads to changes in the cells' adhesive properties. Thus, we sought to find out if N-cadherin expressed in various, but cancer-related cells, differs in its functional properties t ...

We report a comprehensive in vitro study of the photo-oxidative stress on different biomolecular and cellular targets generated in the presence of fullerol C-60(OH)(n), a novel, fullerene-based and water-soluble sensitizer of singlet oxygen ((1)Delta(g)). ...

A traditional photonic-force microscope (PFM) results in huge sets of data, which requires tedious numerical analysis. In this paper, we propose instead an analog signal processor to attain real-time capabilities while retaining the richness of the traditi ...
