The fatigue behavior of adhesively-bonded pultruded GFRP joints subjected to variable amplitude loading patterns was experimentally investigated. The failure mode of the examined joints was found to be similar to that under constant amplitude loading. The ...

The two-dimensional (2D) debonding behavior of GFRP/balsa sandwich panels presenting embedded circular disbonds at the face sheet/core interface was experimentally investigated. The bottom of the panels was fixed and out-of-plane quasi-static tensile loads ...

In the field of timber engineering, adhesive bonding remains a promising, though poorly developed, joining technique that may increase the structural stiffness and capacity of timber joints and structures. Selecting ductile adhesives may further allow to c ...

The scope of the present work is the application of a particular class of strain energy function, based on the logarithmic strain, for the prediction of the twisting moment and axial force of a rubber circular cylinder under combined extension and torsion. ...

The effect of load interruptions on the fatigue behavior of (±45)2s angle-ply glass/epoxy composite laminates was investigated in this work. Constant amplitude fatigue experiments were performed at different stress levels to derive base line fatigue data. ...

This article investigates the effects of voids, joint geometry, and test conditions on the quasi-static Mode I fracture performance of thick adhesive Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) joints such as those prevailing in wind industry and shipbuilding. The specim ...

The constant amplitude fatigue behavior of adhesively bonded pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer double-lap joints were modeled by a number of conceptually different phenomenological SN (cyclic stress vs. number of cycle) formulations. An extended dat ...

This paper presents new analytical model of asymmetric mixed-mode bending (MMB) specimen of adhesively bonded pultruded GFRP joints. An easily applicable relationship for the calculation of the strain energy release rate of the asymmetric MMB specimens is ...

Adaptive kinetic façades are systems capable of modifying their shape to optimize their behavior regarding real time outdoor and indoor conditions. They are typically evaluated based on quantifiable physical parameters such as illuminance levels, with litt ...

This work investigates the integration of Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques with cellular metamaterials integrated into composite sandwich beam systems. The study proposes an approach that combines composite materials for the face sheets with cellular ...

This study investigates the fracture behavior of thick adhesive joints manufactured with composite adherends and bonded with an epoxy-based structural adhesive common to the wind turbine industry. For that purpose, double cantilever beam specimens with an ...

In this research, a generalized machine learning (ML) framework is proposed to estimate the fatigue life of epoxy polymers and additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy materials, leveraging their failure surface void characteristics. An extreme gradient boos ...

The effect of cyclic loading interruption on the fatigue behavior of angle-ply (±45)2S glass/epoxy composite laminates was investigated by comparing the obtained results of continuous- and interrupted loading patterns. Continuous fatigue experiments were p ...

This paper presents the results of an experimental program designed to study the effects of aging and a wet environment on the fatigue behavior of epoxy resins used in bridge applications. Specimens were manufactured, cured, and treated, before the experim ...

The fracture behavior of adhesively-bonded double- and stepped-lap joints composed of pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer composite laminates and subjected to axial tension was experimentally investigated and numerically modeled. Two methods were used ...

The aim of this work was to investigate to what extent the performance of a glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) sandwich slab-bridge with a uniform high-density balsa core could be improved in terms of structural efficiency and weight by using a more com ...

A floating platform for a wind turbine comprising a vertically arranged support; a toroidal body arranged horizontally and coaxially around said support; a plurality of connection elements which extends radially to connect the support to the toroidal body, ...

A new adhesive formulation is developed, enabling assisted self-healing for wind turbine rotor blade (WTRB) applications. The properties of this epoxy based formulation are compared to those of a state-of-the-art toughened epoxy adhesive (Sikapower (R)-830 ...

The current investigation introduces the concepts of the equivalent crack length approach for thin and thick adhesive joints. Its applicability is assessed for adhesively bonded composite and steel joints with a bondline thickness ranging from 0.4 mm to 10 ...

The standard lightning waveforms used for the testing of aircraft are based on downward lightning. However, there is evidence suggesting that lightning to aircraft is different from negative downward lightning. Also, carbon fiber composite materials are be ...
