Climate change and growing urban populations are increasingly putting pressure on cities to reduce their carbon emissions and transition towards efficient and renewable energy systems. This challenges in particular urban planners, who are expected to integ ...

The paper describes a case study on the design of district energy infrastructure for the green-field project of the Vale de Santo Antonio (Lisbon, Portugal). The methodology is based on a novel framework built on the sequential integration of three softwar ...

The cities in which we live are constantly evolving. The active management of this evolution is referred to as urban planning. The according development process could go in many directions resulting in a large number of potential future scenarios of a city ...

Cities are expected to play a key role in achieving the ambitious energy targets set by the European Union. By looking at opportunities beyond the single building scale, urban planners can significantly contribute to shape energy-efficient and low-carbon c ...

Cities can play a key role in mitigating climate change impacts, as they represent two thirds of the world’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This paper presents a model-based approach to support cities in the challenge of including energy ...

This paper introduces urb.io, an interactive optimization framework for early-stage urban planning. It allows urban planners to generate and explore many alternative urban configurations, while focusing their attention on the most promising ones. First, ad ...
