Meta stable embedded nano-sized -particles within a single grain extracted from an alloy having the nominal composition have been examined with X-ray diffraction. By applying the orientational and metric relationships that exist between the hexagonal unit ...

The crystal structure of a disordered form of Cr1/3NbS2 has been characterized using diffraction and inelastic scattering of synchrotron radiation. In contrast to the previously reported symmetry (P6322), the crystal can be ...

A 1D, end-on azido- and phenoxo-bridged, coordination polymer, Cu-2(mu-NAPPR)(mu(1,1)-N-3)(2) (1), (NAPPR(2-) = 1,3-bis(naphthylideneimino) propane dianion), was synthesized and characterized. The 1D branched-chain is built of two types of slightly di ...

High-resolution powder x-ray diffraction and single-crystal neutron diffraction were used to investigate the crystal structure and magnetic ordering of the compound Pr1-xCax VO3 (0

A novel lithium zinc niobium oxide LiZnNb4O11.5 (LZNO) has been found in the Nb-rich part of Li2O–ZnO–Nb2O5 system. LZNO, with an original a-PbO2 related structure, has been synthesized by the routine ceramic technique and characterized by X-ray diffractio ...

In this paper the anisotropy of anomalous scattering at the Br K-absorption edge in brominated nucleotides is investigated, and it is shown that this effect can give rise to a marked directional dependence of the anomalous signal strength in X-ray diffract ...

Metergoline is a dopamine agonist and serotonin antagonist used both in human and veterinary medicine. In addition to the previously known crystalline form, a new polymorph, which crystallizes from aqueous solution, was found. Since it was initially imposs ...

Double perovskite oxides A(2)BB'O-6 combining 3d and 4d or 5d transition metal ions at the B and B' sites feature a variety of magnetic and magneto-electric properties. Targeting Ba2FeOsO6, we synthesized powder samples of nonstoichiometric Ba2Fe1.12Os0.88 ...

A combined synchrotron X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, and infrared spectroscopy study of the pressure-induced changes in H3BO3 to 10 GPa revealed a new high-pressure phase transition between 1 and 2 GPa followed by chemical decomposition into cubic H ...

N-Salicylideneaniline (SA), C13H11NO, belongs to the large family of aromatic Schiff bases. It is of particular importance owing to its reversible photoreactivity. SA forms two photochromic polymorphs, both with two non-coplanar benzene rings. In addition, ...

In the present study the challenge of analyzing complex micro X-ray diffraction (microXRD) patterns from cement clay interfaces has been addressed. In order to extract the maximum information concerning both the spatial distribution and the crystal structu ...

The structure of the hardening η′-phase precipitates in Al–Zn–Mg alloys has been investigated by using precession electron diffraction and X-ray synchrotron radiation diffraction. The latter was recorded as a three-dimensional, continuous intensity distrib ...

The quest for lead-free light-absorbing perovskite materials has long been the target of researchers to make the 'star' material friendly to the commercial market. After a summary of different lead-free solar absorbers, we demonstrate a zero-dimensional io ...

The title compound,

(UO_2)_2Cl_2(OH)_2(H_2O)_4

, was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted reaction between uranium(VI) oxide dihydrate,

UO_3·2H_2O

, and hydrogen bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide

(HTf_2N)

, in an experiment to obtain ...

Polarized fluorescence spectra were recorded in the vicinity of the Se and Br K edges on crystals of the selenated protein aldose reductase in complex with a brominated inhibitor molecule. The X-ray absorption, refraction and resonant scattering tensors as ...

Polycarboxylate ligands are among the most important building blocks for the synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The ability to access these ligands in an efficient way is of key importance for future applications of MOFs. Here, we demonstrate th ...

In this paper, with the example of two different polymorphs of KEu(MoO4)(2), the influence of the ordering of the A-cations on the luminescent properties in scheelite related compounds (A',A '') (B',B '')O-4 is investigated. The polymorphs were synthe ...

X-ray induced anisotropic variations of cell parameters in porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE) were used in a multi-Pawley refinement in order to improve the deconvolution of overlapping peaks occurring in the high-angle region of the powder pattern. The ben ...

New opportunities for studying (sub) microcrystalline materials with small unit cells, both organic and inorganic, will open up when the X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) presently being constructed in Switzerland (SwissFEL) comes online in 2017. Our synchr ...

We report on the coexistence of magnetic order and disorder in the atomically disordered double perovskites Ca2FeRuO6 and CaSrFeRuO6. Powder x-ray and neutron diffraction were used to investigate the crystal structure and magnetic ordering of these oxides. ...
