With growing concern about process variation in deeply nano-scaled technologies, parameterized device and circuit modeling is becoming very important for design and verification. However, the high dimensionality of parameter space is a serious modeling cha ...

The total power budget of Ultra-Low Power (ULP) VLSI Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) is often dominated by the leakage power of embedded memories and pipeline registers, which typically cannot be power-gated during sleep periods as they need to retain data and prog ...

One paramount challenge in multi-ion-sensing arises from ion interference that degrades the accuracy of sensor calibration. Machine learning models are here proposed to optimize such multivariate calibration. However, the acquisition of big experimental da ...

We study different symbolic algorithms to solve two related reconfiguration problems on graphs: the token swapping problem and the permutation routing via matchings problem. Input to both problems is a connected graph with labeled vertices and a token in e ...

3-D integrated circuits (3-D ICs) offer a promising solution to overcome the scaling limitations of 2-D ICs. However, using too many through-silicon-vias (TSVs) pose a negative impact on 3-D ICs due to the large overhead of TSV (e.g., large footprint and l ...

Nowadays, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) implement arithmetic functions using specific circuits at the logic block level, such as the carry paths, or at the structure level adopting Digital Signal Processing (DSP) blocks. Nevertheless, all these app ...

The great interest in portable and wearable monitoring systems has promoted in recent years a major expansion of all-solid-state Ion-Selective Electrodes (ISEs). Nanostructured Solid-Contacts (SCs) have shown a promising potential in order to eliminate the ...

Ion-sensors play a major role in physiology and healthcare monitoring since they are capable of continuously collecting biological data from body fluids. Nevertheless, ion interference from background electrolytes present in the sample is a paramount chall ...

Biosensing for chronic pathologies requires the simultaneous monitoring of different parameters such as drug concentrations, inflammation status, temperature and pH. In this paper we discuss the design, fabrication and test of a sensor array hosting five b ...

Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) can benefit non-volatility and high-performance by exploiting Resistive Random Access Memories (RRAMs). In RRAM-based FPGAs, the memories do not only replace the SRAMs and store configurations, but they can also repla ...

State-of-the-art techniques for measuring and monitoring gene level expression rely on messenger RNA (mRNA) extraction and quantification, usually based on the concept of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. In this paper, we take adva ...

In electronic design automation Boolean resynthesis techniques are increasingly used to improve the quality of results where algebraic methods hit local minima Boolean methods rely on complete functional properties of a logic circuit, preferably including ...

Systems-on-Chip (SoC) design involves several challenges, stemming from the extreme miniaturization of the physical features and from the large number of devices and wires on a chip. Since most SoCs are used within embedded systems, specific concerns are i ...

Designing a low power clock network in synchronous circuits is an important task. This requirement is stricter for 3-D circuits due to the increased power densities. Resonant clock networks are considered efficient low-power alternatives to conventional cl ...

Semiconductor nanowires are emerging as promising building blocks for biosensors enabling direct electrical detection of various biomolecules. In this framework, two-terminal Schottky-barrier silicon (Si) nanowire arrays that exhibit memristive electrical ...

Environmental energy is becoming a feasible alternative to traditional energy sources for ultra low-power devices such as sensor nodes. These devices can run reactive applications that adapt their control flow depending on the sensed data. In order to redu ...

The aim of this work was to demonstrate that various types of nanostructures provide different gains in terms of sensitivity or detection limit albeit providing the same gain in terms of increased area. Commercial screen printed electrodes (SPEs) were func ...

The decision-making process regarding drug dose, regularly used in everyday medical practice, is critical to patients’ health and recovery. It is a challenging process, especially for a drug with narrow therapeutic ranges, in which a medical doctor decides ...

Realization of logic and storage operations in memristive circuits have opened up a promising research direction of in-memory computing. Elementary digital circuits, e.g., Boolean arithmetic circuits, can be economically realized within memristive circuits ...
