Observation of the Brownian motion of a small probe interacting with its environment provides one of the main strategies for characterizing soft matter. Essentially, two counteracting forces govern the motion of the Brownian particle. First, the particle i ...

We present a study of binary mixtures of eye lens crystallin proteins. A coarse-grained model of aqueous aand γ-crystallin mixtures based on molecular dynamics simulations and SANS experiments is proposed. Thermodynamic perturbation theory is implemented t ...

Understanding and, ultimately, controlling the properties of amorphous materials is one of the key goals of material science. Among the different amorphous structures, a very important role is played by colloidal gels. It has been only recently understood ...

We study the equilibrium liquid structure and dynamics of dilute and concentrated bovine eye lens alpha-crystallin solutions, using small-angle X-ray scattering, static and dynamic light scattering, viscometry, molecular dynamics simulations, and mode-coup ...

We consider two schematic models of glasses subjected to oscillatory shear deformation, motivated by the observations, in computer simulations of a model glass, of a nonequilibrium transition from a localized to a diffusive regime as the shear amplitude is ...

In this paper we introduce a fully flexible coarse-grained model of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies parametrized directly on cryo-EM data and simulate the binding dynamics of many IgGs to antigens adsorbed on a surface at increasing densities. Moreover, ...

The role of sound in the dynamics of mesoscale systems is typically neglected, since frequently the associated time scales are much smaller than all the other time scales of interest. However, for sufficiently small objects embedded in a solvent with a suf ...

We study the phase behaviour of symmetric binary mixtures of hard core Yukawa (HCY) particles via thermodynamic perturbation theory (TPT). We show that all the topologies of phase diagram reported for the symmetric binary mixtures are correctly reproduced ...

The Apollonian packings (APs) of spheres are fractals that result from a space-filling procedure. We discuss the finite size effects for finite intervals s is an element of [s(min), s(max)] between the largest and the smallest sizes of the filling spheres. ...

We studied the phase behavior of a model binary mixture of eye lens crystallin proteins using first-order thermodynamic perturbation theory. The instability boundary, or spinodal surface, was found to be very sensitive to the strength of the attraction bet ...

We study tagged particle diffusion at large packing fractions, for a model of particles interacting with a generalized Lennard-Jones 2n-n potential, with large n. The resulting short range potential mimics interactions in colloidal systems. In agreement wi ...

We discuss the static and dynamical properties of a model of short range attractive colloidal systems. Our model is a binary mixture of particles interacting with a modified Lennard-Jones potential that we simulated by molecular dynamics. As previously fou ...

We derive an analytical expression for the effective force between a pair of macrospheres immersed in a sea of microspheres, in the case where the interaction between the two unlike species is assumed to be a square well or a square shoulder of given range ...

We numerically calculate the configurational entropy Sconf of a binary mixture of hard spheres, by using a perturbed Hamiltonian method trapping the system inside a given state, which requires fewer assumptions than the previous methods (Speedy 1998 Mol.Ph ...

The understanding of the exact boundary conditions at the interface between a solid and a fluid is becoming increasingly important, as the limitations of the no-slip boundary condition are becoming apparent, especially in micro- and nanofluidics applicatio ...

Liquid–liquid phase separation occurs in young mammalian eye lenses and in concentrated solutions of isolated eye lens proteins, and has been linked to some forms of cataract. Here we study theoretically the protein compositions and cloud temperatures of t ...

Hydrodynamic interactions play a pivotal role in the dynamical behaviour of mesoscale systems such as colloidal suspensions, yet isolating their contribution from other effects remains a key challenge. Hydrodynamic correlations within a fluid are a consequ ...

We numerically investigate the competition between phase separation and dynamical arrest in a colloidal system interacting via a short-ranged attractive potential. Equilibrium fluid configurations are quenched at two different temperatures below the critic ...

Diffusion-limited reactions are commonly found in biochemical processes such as enzyme catalysis, colloid and protein aggregation and binding between different macromolecules in cells. Usually, such reactions are modeled within the Smoluchowski framework b ...
