A new type of district energy network has recently been proposed that is based on the use of CO2 as a heat transfer fluid. It uses the latent heat of vaporization, instead of sensible heat, to store and transfer heat. Previous studies have focused on demon ...

Energy needs in urban areas are heterogeneous by their nature, spatial distribution and temperature level required. Three concepts of district energy networks that could provide the energy services efficiently to a city centre are compared. The focus is on ...

Large scale energy storage may play an increasingly important role in the power generation and distribution sector, especially when large shares of renewable energies will have to be integrated into the electrical grid. Up to now pumped-hydro is the only t ...

District energy systems can potentially decrease the CO2 emissions linked to energy services, thanks to the implementation of polygeneration energy conversion technologies, connected to buildings over a network. To transfer the energy from centralized tech ...

Compact district energy networks in a temperature range of 10 to 16°C have a great potential for energy savings by providing a heat source for decentralized heating heat pumps, a cold source for air-conditioning and a heat sink for refrigeration or cogener ...

A new type of district energy network capable of providing simultaneously heating and cooling is being investigated. It is based on the use of CO2 as a heat transfer fluid by taking advantage of the latent heat of vaporization, to store and transfer heat a ...

Urban areas represent an ever increasing challenge in terms of energy use and environmental impact associated with it. Projections from the United Nation expect this number to reach 66% by 2050. In Europe 40% of the final energy consumption and 36% of the ...

The 5th generation compact district heating and cooling networks in a temperature range of 10 to 16 °C have a great potential for energy savings by providing a heat source for decentralized heating heat pumps, a cold source for air-conditioning and a heat ...

Multistage heat pumps are one of the most efficient technologies for delivering heat at temperatures below 100°C, Thanks to their fairly high exergy efficiency. In the recent years the development of radial compressors mounted on gas bearings have unlock t ...

The concept studied in this work is a low power ORC-ORC system (about 20 kW heat at the condenser) which is composed of an ORC engine cycle driving a reversed ORC heat pump cycle, both using the same fluid. The radial compressor and turbine are directly co ...

The concept studied in this work is a low power ORC-ORC heat pump system (providing about 20 kW heat at the condenser) and that is composed of an ORC power cycle driving a reversed ORC heat pump cycle, both cycles using the same fluid. The centrifugal comp ...

This study addresses the safety issue for the realization of a CO2 heat distribution system in the NEST research and innovation building. It is based on consideration around the concept of CO2 network developed at LENI/IPESE-EPFL and takes advantage from t ...
