A core density fluctuation imaging diagnostic is being developed for the TCV tokamak, employing a 7 cm wide CO2 laser beam transmitted through the plasma in a near-toroidal direction. The proposed system employs the phase contrast method and can resolve wa ...

On the Tokamak a Configuration Variable (TCV), electron internal transport barriers (eITBs) can be formed during a gradual evolution from a centrally peaked to a hollow current profile while all external actuators are held constant. The formation occurs ra ...

Plasmas with a negative triangularity shape have been created on the DIII-D tokamak that, despite maintaining standard L-mode edge radial profiles, reach volume averaged pressure levels typical of H-mode scenarios. Within the auxiliary power available for ...

Diverted discharges at negative triangularity on the DIII-D tokamak sustain normalized confinement and pressure levels typical of standard H-mode scenarios (H (98y2) similar or equal to 1, beta (N) similar or equal to 3) without developing an edge pressure ...

Helicon current drive (CD), also called fast wave CD in the lower hybrid range of frequencies, has long been regarded as a promising CD tool for reactor grade plasmas. A newly installed MW-level system at DIII-D will be the first test of this technology in ...

Electron internal transport barriers (elTBs) are generated in the TCV tokamak with strong electron cyclotron resonance heating in a variety of conditions, ranging from steady-state fully noninductive scenarios to stationary discharges with a finite inducti ...

The favorable confinement properties of negative-triangularity (NT) tokamak configurations were discovered in the TCV tokamak in the late 1990s and were documented over the two following decades, through investigations of predominantly electron-heated plas ...

Understanding the physics of internal transport barriers (ITBs) is a crucial issue in developing ITER relevant advanced tokamak scenarios. To gain new information on ITBs, RF power modulation experiments, mainly devoted to the study of electron heat transp ...

The effect of plasma shape on confinement has been experimentally explored in the TCV tokamak revealing that the core electron heat transport is significantly reduced by a negative triangularity configuration, which could indicate a (partial) stabilization ...

New results on electron heat wave propagation using ion cyclotron resonance heating power modulation in the Joint European Torus (JET) [P. H. Rebut , Nucl. Fusion 25, 1011 (1985)] plasmas characterized by internal transport barriers (ITBs) are presented. T ...

Recent JET experiments have been devoted to the study of (He-3)-D plasmas involving radio frequency (RF) heating. This paper starts by discussing the RF heating efficiency theoretically expected in such plasmas, covering both relevant aspects of wave and o ...

In the context of gyrokinetic flux-tube simulations of microturbulence in magnetized toroidal plasmas, different treatments of the magnetic equilibrium are examined. Considering the Cyclone DIII-D base case parameter set [Dimits et al., Phys. Plasmas 7, 96 ...
