Model composite plates composed of highly conductive slender copper fibres impregnated with a poorly conductive and transparent PMMA matrix were processed with different fibrous architectures, i.e. with various controlled fibre contents and orientations. T ...

Crack onset strain measurements of a confined layer in tension provide the means for layer toughness estimation. The procedure can be simplified if steady-state conditions prevail starting from the commencement of crack propagation, an assumption frequentl ...

Flexible displays form complex structures joining together multiple layers of very various materials: metal or plastic flexible substrate, barrier and encapsulation layers, thin-films of transistor and optoelectronic devices. Residual stresses are inherent ...

Probabilistic model of coating fragmentation under uniaxial tensile loading is developed. Analytical expressions of the crack spacing evolution are obtained for small-strain and large-strain fragmentation regimes. The model is applied for coating and inter ...

A theoretical modeling framework is proposed to follow shape and residual stress evolutions of layered flexible display structures with respect to deposition, ambient temperature and relative humidity conditions. This model couples the mechanical equilibri ...

Flexible displays present a challenging problem in terms of mechanical integrity, a result of the considerable hygro-thermomechanical contrast between the inorganic, brittle device layers and the compliant polymer substrates. This paper reviews the main ap ...

Compression mouldings of commercial SMC were performed with an instrumented industrial press under various process conditions. Results underline the influence of process parameters such as the initial SMC temperature, the axial punch velocity and the geome ...

Homogeneous plane strain compression tests were performed on standard industrial GMT composites using a channel mould at 200oC. A charring and weighting technique was used to determine the fibre concentration after the compression experiments. Experimental ...

lexible electronic devices are currently being developed using polymer substrates. Such devices present advantages like conformability, are light-weight and are expected to be manufactured in roll-to-roll (R2R) schemes accounting for cost-reduction. These ...

The rheology of highly concentrated fibers suspended in power-law fluids is investigated by upscaling the physics at the fiber scale. A deterministic upscaling technique is used, namely the homogenization method for periodic discrete structures. This micro ...

Intrinsic, thermal, and hygroscopic contributions to the in-plane residual stress in silicon nitride films on polyimide substrates are identified, based on iso- hygric thermal ramps and isothermal relative humidity jumps, combined with non-linear elastic m ...

Highly concentrated planar fibre-bundle suspensions with a transparent PMMA matrix were processed with various initial bundle contents and orientations. They were submitted to simple compression and plane strain compression deformation modes. First rheolog ...

Ce travail présente une étude de la rhéologie de suspensions de fibres concentrées baignant dans une matrice de type fluide en loi puissance. La méthode d’homogénéisation des structures discrètes est utilisée pour passer de la physique à l’échelle des fibr ...
