We consider the design of the MAC layer for low power, low data-rate, impulse-radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB) networks. In such networks, the primary concern is energy consumption rather than rate efficiency. We explore several dimensions such as power cont ...

We propose a novel detection method for non-coherent synchronization (signal acquisition) in multi-user UWB impulse radio (IR) networks. It is designed to solve the IUI (Inter-User Interference) that occurs in some ad-hoc networks where concurrent transmis ...

We evaluate, by measurements on a real testbed, the performance of networking services required for spot applications. We call a “spot application” an application for smartphones (such as “Ad-hoc Flash Sales”) that disseminates information in a local neigh ...

Recent analytical and experimental work demonstrate that IEEE 802.11-based wireless mesh networks are prone to turbulence. Manifestations of such turbulence take the form of large buffer build-up at relay nodes, end-to-end delay fluctuations, and traffic c ...

We are interested in the design of physical-layer aware medium access control (PHY-aware MAC) for self-organized, low power, low data-rate impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) networks. In such networks, energy consumption is much more of a concern than a ...

In IR (Impulse Radio) network, the conventional synchronization (also called signal acquisition) method becomes inefficient and results in a certain failure of synchronization when concurrent transmissions are allowed without controlling their powers. The ...

We identify vulnerabilities in epidemic forwarding. We address broadcast applications over wireless ad-hoc networks. Epidemic forwarding employs several mechanisms such as inhibition and spread control, and each of them can be implemented using alternative ...

IEEE 802.11 works properly only if the stations respect the MAC protocol. We show in this paper that a greedy user can substantially increase his share of bandwidth, at the expense of the other users, by slightly modifying the driver of his network adapter ...

We propose a complete design for a scope limited, multi-hop broadcast middleware, which is adapted to the variability of the ad-hoc environment and works in unlimited ad-hoc networks such as a crowd in a city, or car passengers in a busy highway system. We ...
