Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) is an extension of a quantitative imaging technique to measure water surface velocities using simple and inexpensive equipment. This paper describes the implementation of imaged-based LSPIV in eight different ...

The degradation of photovoltaic (PV) systems is one of the key factors to address in order to reduce the cost of the electricity produced by increasing the operational lifetime of PV systems. To reduce the degradation, it is imperative to know the degradat ...

The Saint-Marc dam, owned by EDF-France is a concrete gravity dam built between 1926 and 1930. It is located near Limoges (France) on the Taurion River and has currently two gated spillways, one 7.50 m wide on the right bank and the other with two passes o ...

Résumé Dans le cadre du projet de recherche sur la sédimentation de réservoirs à faible profondeur, en particulier les sédiments en suspension, les paramètres suivants ont été étudiés: l’influence de la géométrie du réservoir sur le transport des sédiments ...

The worst enemy of sustainable use of reservoirs is sedimentation. Often the main silting process is the result of settling down of suspended sediments. In shallow reservoirs the flow pattern and the sediment deposition processes are strongly influenced by ...

Shallow depth flow fields and low velocity magnitudes are often challenges for traditional velocity measuring instruments. As such, new techniques have been developed that provide more reliable velocity measurements under these circumstances. In the presen ...

The trap efficiency of a shallow reservoir depends on the characteristics of the inflowing sediments and the retention time of the water in the reservoir, which in turn are controlled by the reservoir geometry. With the purpose of controlling the trapped a ...

Depositional and flow patterns are first described to gain an understanding of the erosion patterns during hydraulic flushing in a reservoir. Considering the importance of this issue, two modes of flushing operation for control of sedimentation were perfor ...

Shallow reservoirs are threatened by fast filling up with sediments, even if the entering sediments are only suspended loads. The sedimentation process is strongly influenced by the geometry of such shallow reservoirs. In the framework of a research projec ...

The deposition behavior of fine sediment is an important phenomenon, which remains unclear to engineers concerned about reservoir sedimentation. In the present case bed level changes, suspended sediment concentrations, and flow velocities were measured in ...

Free surface flows in several shallow rectangular basins have been analyzed experimentally, numerically and theoretically. Different geometries, characterized by different widths and lengths, are considered as well as different hydraulic conditions. First, ...

Low velocity and shallow-depth flow fields often are a challenge to most velocity measuring instruments. In the framework of a research project on reservoir sedimentation, the influence of the reservoir geometry on sediment transport and deposition was stu ...

The Arve River is the most important tributary of the Rhone River The Arve has a very high sediment transport capacity due to its steep slope in the Alpine Valley. These solid materials deposit in the Rhone River. Because of the high sedimentation rate in ...
