We study the coupling interactions between a progressively elongated silver nanoparticle and a silver film on a glass substrate. Specifically, we investigate how the coupling between localized surface plasmons (LSPs) and propagating surface plasmon polarit ...

Recently, it was noted that losses in plasmonics can also enable several useful optical functionalities. One class of structures that can maximize absorption are metal insulator metal systems. Here, we study 3-layer systems with a nano-composite metal laye ...

Different phenomena that occur in a periodic array of plasmonic nanostructures are investigated in terms of periodicity and multipoles. In this presentation, we revisit the resonances that exist in periodic plasmonic systems, Fig. 1. Starting with some bas ...

We present a frequency-domain modeling technique for second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. The technique is derived from the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs), which have been so far mostly used for modeling linear metasurfaces. In this work, ...

Molecular fluorescence decay is significantly modified when the emitting molecule is located near a plasmonic structure. When the lateral sizes of such structures are reduced to nanometer-scale cross sections, they can be used to accurately control and amp ...

Significant augmentation of second harmonic generation using Fano resonances in plasmonic heptamers made of silver is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated. The geometry is engineered to simultaneously produce a Fano resonance at the fundamental wa ...

The coupling between metallic nanostructures is a common and easy way to control the optical properties of plasmonic systems. Even though the coupling between plasmonic oscillators has been widely studied in the linear regime, its influence on the nonlinea ...

The universal scaling of plasmon coupling in metallic nanostructures is now a well-established feature. However, if the interaction between dipolar plasmon modes has been intensively studied, this is not the case of the coupling between higher order ones. ...

Optical manipulation and detection of biological particulates are crucial procedures in biophotonics. Optical sectioning (OS) opens the avenue to three-dimensional (3D) microscopy, but nonoptical approaches, including sample adhesion and mechanical scannin ...

The optimization of nanostructures for a specific application is a rather complex task, often akin to shooting in the dark with the hope of hitting the right target, viz. the best performing nanostructure. This difficulty stems from the usually large numbe ...

Electromagnetic forces and torques enable many key technologies, including optical tweezers or dielectrophoresis. Interestingly, both techniques rely on the same physical process: the interaction of an oscillating electric field with a particle of matter. ...

We study a compound plasmonic system composed of a periodic Au grating array placed close to a thin Au film. The study is not limited to normal incidence and dispersion diagrams are computed for a broad variety of parameters. In addition to identifying loc ...

We present a novel plasmonic antenna geometry - the double resonant antenna (DRA) - that is optimized for second-harmonic generation (SHG). This antenna is based on two gaps coupled to each other so that a resonance at the fundamental and at the doubled fr ...

The increasing demand for accurate and computationally efficient modeling of light-matter interactions in stratified media has driven significant advancements in numerical techniques. The surface integral equation (SIE) method provides a robust framework f ...

We numerically study the optical properties of metal lattices made from periodically arranged plasmonic molecules, i.e., coupled gold nanowire pairs. It is shown that the interaction between the metallic wires, which is directly controlled by the specific ...

The occurrence of quasi-bound states in the continuum (qBIC) in all-dielectric asymmetric grating waveguide couplers with different degrees of asymmetry under normal light incidence is analysed from the viewpoint of identifying the most promising configura ...

We present an extensive discussion on the homogenization and scattering analysis of second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. We use the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs) in the frequency-domain to model the electromagnetic responses of nonlinear ...

Efficient optical energy transfer is key to many technologies, ranging from biosensing to photovoltaics. Here, for the first time we show that by introducing a random medium with appropriate filling factor, absorption in a specific volume can be maximized. ...

A surface integral formulation for light scattering on periodic structures is presented. Electric and magnetic field equations are derived on the scatterers' surfaces in the unit cell with periodic boundary conditions. The solution is calculated with the m ...

We demonstrate a novel method for fabricating single crystal diamond diffraction gratings based on crystallographic etching that yields high-quality diffraction gratings from commercially available diamond plates. Both V-groove and rectangular gratin ...
