The fabrication of highly ordered nanostructures over large areas is key for many technologies and colloidal lithography using the Langmuir Blodgett technique appears a simple and straightforward way of reaching that goal. While this technique has been wid ...

Among the two materials families used in nanophotonics, the fundamental mode for metal nanostructures is electric, while that for dielectric nanostructures is magnetic. Consequently, the optical properties of hybrid dimers that incorporate both materials h ...

Near field generated by plasmonic structures has recently been proposed to trap small objects. We report the first integration of plasmonic trapping with microfluidics for lab-on-a-chip applications. A three-layer plasmo-microfluidic chip is used to demons ...

In this work we investigate the effect of visible light radiation on compact 1T-1R relaxation spiking oscillator cells based on 2-terminal Vanadium dioxide (VO2) structures. We illuminate the devices using a tunable wavelength laser between 400 and 850 nm ...

In this work, we pave the route towards the engineering of strong and spectrally sharp Fano resonances in plasmonic nanostructures and derive analytical formulas for their line shape as a function of their electromagnetic response. Contrary to the original ...

We investigate experimentally and theoretically the role of periodicity on the optical response of dolmen plasmonic arrays that exhibit a Fano line shape. Contrary to previous works on single nanostructures, this study deals with the in-plane near-field co ...

We investigate optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) from metasurfaces where noncentrosymmetric V-shaped gold nanoparticles are ordered into regular array configurations. In contrast to expectations, a substantial enhancement of the SHG signal is observ ...

We study the reflection of a tightly focused Gaussian beam off a near symmetric resonant tunneling structure comprising two identical coupled waveguides. The coupled waveguides are loaded on each side by a spacer layer and a high index prism. Reflection of ...

Second-harmonic generation (SHG) and other second-order nonlinear processes do not occur in bulk gold due to its centrosymmetric crystal structure. However, the centrosymmetry is broken at the surface, giving rise to non-zero surface susceptibility tensor ...

Investigation on the interplay of plasmonic resonances in binary nanostructures indicated that, at a fixed wavelength, with a variation in the difference permittivity ratio eta=(epsilon(2)-epsilon(0)/epsilon(1)-epsilon(0)), resonances exhibit the dielectri ...

We present a systematic numerical investigation of conical metal tips which are commonly used in tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS). Different from previous studies, we focus on how the tip length and the illumination condition influence the local fiel ...

We study the integration of plasmonic traps with microfluidic channels. Plasmonic traps are optical traps that use the evanescent field generated by metallic nanostructures at their plasmon resonance to trap small objects. Contrary to conventional - far-fi ...

Avalanche multiphoton photoluminescence (AMPL) is observed from coupled Au–Al nanoantennas under intense laser pumping, which shows more than one order of magnitude emission intensity enhancement and distinct spectral features compared with ordinary metall ...

We look beyond the standard time-average approach and investigate optical forces in the time domain. The formalism is developed for both the Abraham and Minkowski momenta, which appear to converge in the time domain. We unveil an extremely rich - and by fa ...

Light scattered by a dielectric object when it is trapped in the field of a plasmonic nanostructure is studied theoretically and experimentally using both dielectric spheres and S. cerevisiae cells. A dramatic enhancement of the scattered light is observed ...

The immense potential of optical metasurfaces is showcased by demonstrating several state-of-the-art applications with plasmonic metasurfaces along with experimental investigation of their polarization response using Mueller matrix spectroscopy. The work o ...

We study how retardation leads to interference effects in radiatively coupled plasmonic nanoparticles. We show that inclined illumination through a glass substrate on two plasmonic particles results in either an enhanced field or an attenuated field locali ...

Interactions of cell-autonomous circadian oscillators with diurnal cycles govern the temporal compartmentalization of cell physiology in mammals. To understand the transcriptional and epigenetic basis of diurnal rhythms in mouse liver genome-wide, we gener ...

The Optical trapping of Au nanoparticles with dimensions as small as 10 nm in the gap of plasmonic dipole antennas is demonstrated. Single nanoparticle trapping events are recorded in real time by monitoring the Rayleigh scattering spectra of individual pl ...

We describe a general theoretical framework based on the Bergman spectral representation to study how a nanostructure interacts with an external electromagnetic field. The selection rules for localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) are obtained by imp ...
