Modal acoustics is one of the main sources of annoyance in the low frequency range in rooms. Active noise control techniques can be deployed to reach sufficient acoustic benefit, but limited to a single frequency, whereas broader efficiency would require c ...

In small to medium size rooms, natural room modes may severely strengthen the annoyance of low frequency noises, such as traffic or equipment noise. Moreover, there is an actual technological gap in the state-of-the-art concerning low-frequency treatments, ...

Controlling sound in three-dimensional spaces is a complex task, challenged by the intricacies of acoustic modal structures, the variety of noise sources, and the propagation of waves. This research analyzes the influence of local impedance control on the ...

Characterization of sound fields in rooms has always been a challenging task. A faithful reconstruction of sound fields in rooms generally would require an impractically high number of microphones. At low frequencies, where sound field can be modeled as a ...

A one-dimensional acoustic negative refractive index metamaterial based on the transmission line approach is presented. This structure implements the dual transmission line concept extensively investigated in microwave engineering. It consists of an acoust ...

Measuring binaural room impulse responses (BRIRs) for different rooms and different persons is a costly and time-consuming task. In this paper, we propose a method that allows to compute BRIRs from a B-format room impulse response (B-format RIR) and a set ...

The use of acoustic liners in aviation industry is a quite common solution for reducing the engines acoustic emissions. Although the current solutions based on single or multilayer liners are efficient and compact for the mid and high frequencies, noise mi ...

Acoustic metasurfaces have gained popularity for their capability to tailor the phase front of transmitted and reflected waves. While most of researches conducted in this topic are spinning around different applications and peculiar physics of these surfac ...

Beamforming is commonly used in devices such as in hearing instruments (HI) with a view to reducing noise. It consists in focusing on audio signals arising from a prescribed steering direction while suppressing those coming from other directions. The effic ...

A loudspeaker array is described including several circular sound emitters that are bunked. One circular sound emitter can be either a circular array of loudspeakers (kind 1) or a toroidal loudspeaker (kind 2). The loudspeaker array can be composed of circ ...

L’égalisation du champ sonore aux basses fréquences (égalisation modale) est un véritable défi dans les salles d’enregistrement ou dédiées aux systèmes audio. Les résonances modales conduisent à une distribution irrégulière en espace et en fréquence de l’é ...

The new generation of Ultra-High-By-Pass-Ratio (UHBR) turbofan engine while considerably reducing fuel consumption, threatens higher noise levels at low frequencies because of its larger diameter, lower number of blades and rotational speed. This is accomp ...

This study deals with localization and characterization of multiple sources by mean of an octahedral array processing. We show how correlations enable to both localize more sources that the number of sensors and estimate their sound level pressure simultan ...

This paper presents a concept of sensorless electroacoustic absorber for damping the low-frequency modes in a cavity such as a duct or a room. Taking advantage of the reciprocity of the voice coil transducer, it is shown that a synthetic electrical admitta ...

Passive sound mitigation techniques have garnered attention whether for absorption, isolation, reverberation or new wave phenomena observation. In parallel, a wide range of research has been devoted to active control strategies, which complement passive te ...

Les métamatériaux acoustiques désignent des structures acoustiques présentant des propriétés inédites dans la nature, comme une masse négative et/ou un module de compressibilité négatif. Une réalisation de type ligne de transmission unidimensionnelle, cons ...

The occlusion effect refers to the altered perception of one's own voice when the ear canal is fully or partially obstructed. While the loudness increase due to body conducted sounds requires an assessment by psychoacoustic methods, the ratio of sound pres ...
