We present a new approach for estimating the parameters of three-phase untransposed electrically short transmission lines using voltage/current synchrophasor measurements obtained from phasor measurement units. The parameters to be estimated are the entrie ...

One of the challenging tasks related to the realtime control of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs) is represented by the development of fast (i.e. sub-second) state estimation (SE) processes. As known, the problem of SE of power networks links the measure ...

In fixed PV installations, the azimuth and tilt of the panels are normally chosen with the objective of maximizing the plant capacity factor. In this paper, we show that when considering distribution networks with densely clustered PV plants, there exist i ...

Phasor measurement units (PMU) rely on an accurate time-synchronization to phase-align the phasors and timestamp the voltage and current phasor measurements. Among the symmetrical components computed from the phasors in three-phase systems, the standard pr ...

Electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) has emerged as a promising technique to locate disturbances in power grids, thanks to its location accuracy and robustness against parameters uncertainties. Furthermore, in a reflective medium, like the one of a power n ...

We present a study focused on pulses superimposed on the initial continuous current of upward negative discharges. The study is based on experimental data consisting of correlated lightning current waveforms recorded at the instrumented Santis Tower in Swi ...

This paper proposes a control method for battery energy storage systems (BESSs) to provide concurrent primary frequency and local voltage regulation services. The actual variable active and reactive power capability of the converter, along with the state-o ...

The paper describes a heuristic method for the ultra-short-term computation of prediction intervals (PIs) for photovoltaic (PV) power generation. The method allows for directly forecasting the AC active power output of a PV system by simply extracting info ...

The accurate measurement of synchrophasors in static and dynamic power network conditions represents one of the main requirements of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). International Standards (i.e. the IEEE C37.118) are quickly evolving to drive the technolo ...

This paper proposes a real-time decentralized control algorithm in multi-area active distribution network relying only on dispersed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs). In particular, we propose a zonal control strategy targeting voltage support and lin ...

An electric vehicle (EV) charging method which considers the EVs heterogeneity, taking into account the absence of any information about future arrivals and departures, and of the amount of time any charging will take. The method further considers both swi ...

The progressive displacing of conventional generation in favor of renewable energy sources requires restoring an adequate capacity of regulating power to ensure reliable operation of power systems. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) are considered to b ...

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the effect of the frequency dependence of soil electrical parameters on the lightning radiated electromagnetic fields as well as their associated induced voltages on overhead lines. To this aim, a fullwave appro ...

As power grids transition towards low-inertia net-works based on converter-interfaced renewable energy resources, they become increasingly vulnerable to extreme dynamics. Currently, the most advanced methods for signal processing in power systems are embed ...

Factors that contribute to lightning-caused faults on the line insulation of overhead distribution lines and suggested improvements to existing and new constructions are identified in this guide. ...

The application of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) to the real-time monitoring, protection and control of Distribution Networks, requires the availability of high accuracy devices that are characterized at the same time by a reasonable cost. This paper pre ...

The invention provides a method for coping with an unintentional islanding of an electrical distribution grid within a Commelec-type framework for the real-time control of micro-grids, of Resource Agents (RA) controlled by Grid Agents (GA), comprising at l ...

This paper presents a network partitioning strategy for the optimal voltage control of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs) by means of Dispersed Energy Storage Systems (DESSs). The proposed partitioning is based on the concept of voltage sensitivity coeffi ...

An alternative formulation of the second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) IpDFT algorithm is presented to simultaneously comply with both the P and M phasor measurement unit (PMU) performance classes while reducing the observation window from three to t ...

Due to the increasing proportion of distributed photovoltaic (PV) production in the generation mix, the knowledge of the PV generation capacity has become a key factor. In this work, we propose to compute the PV plant maximum power starting from the indire ...
