In the analysis of power grid waveforms, the presence of amplitude or phase steps can disrupt the estimation of frequency and rate-of-change-of-frequency (ROCOF). Standard methods based on phasor-models fail in the extraction of signal parameters during th ...

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) are widely used to characterize the impedance and estimate parameters of electrochemical systems such as batteries. We use a generic ECM with ten parameters grouped to model ...

Distributed photovoltaic (PV) generation is typically connected to power distribution grids, which are not designed to host a large amount of production if it is significantly larger than their nominal electricity demand. Given the prominent role of PV in ...

The paper proposes a modeling technique to analyze the response of a transmission line terminated by a lightning arrester connected to a grounding system buried in a lossy ground. In this technique, the transmission line is modeled in the frequency domain ...

The thorough development of the hyperloop system does require the availability of reduced-scale models. They can be used for the fast prototyping of various components, as well as for studying critical phenomena that takes place in this peculiar transporta ...

Key operational and protection functions of power systems (e.g., optimal power flow scheduling and control, state estimation, protection, and fault location) rely on the availability of models to represent the system's behavior under different operating co ...

In this paper, the problem of dispatching the operation of a distribution feeder comprising a set of heterogeneous resources is investigated. The main objective is to track a power trajectory, called the dispatch plan, which is computed the day before the ...

This paper presents a general methodology based on the matrix pencil method (MPM) for the fitting of frequency-domain responses in order to be properly represented in time-domain analysis. By virtue of the proposed method, a rational fitting of the frequen ...

Recently, the authors of this paper proposed a method for the Harmonic Power-Flow (HPF) calculus in polyphase grids with widespread deployment of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). The HPF problem was formulated by integrating the ...

Phasor data concentrators (PDCs) are essential functions in synchrophasor networks that collect and aggregate phasor measurement unit (PMU) data from across the electric grid. PDC buffers synchrophasor datasets during the “wait time” period, then communica ...

The purpose of the paper is to investigate charge transfer modes in upward lightning flashes by means of numerical simulation constrained by concurrent observations of electromagnetic fields and currents. In particular, we focus on different types of pulse ...

This paper focuses on the prediction of temperature profiles on the surface of lithium-ion cells using a non-parametric method. In particular, this paper proposes the adoption of the impulse response technique to compute and interpret cell surface temperat ...

The objective of this paper is to analyze the value of energy replacement in the context of demand response. Energy replacement is defined as the possibility of the consumer to choose the most convenient source for providing space heating to a smart buildi ...

With the significant increase in photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation, more attention has been given to PV power forecasting. Indeed, accurate forecasting allows power grid operators to better schedule and dispatch their assets, such as energy storage ...

Dispatching active distribution networks (ADNs) is an energy-intensive application that, if implemented via battery-energy storage systems (BESSs), can require a large capacity of these assets in order to fully balance the uncertainties caused by the stoch ...

The problem of optimal control of power distribution systems is becoming increasingly compelling due to the progressive penetration of distributed energy resources in this specific layer of the electrical infrastructure. Distribution systems are, indeed, e ...

Largely motivated by the proliferation of content-centric applications in the Internet, information-centric networking has attracted the attention of the research community. By tailoring network operations around named information objects instead of end ho ...

This Working Group is a sequel to a previous working group on Wide Area Monitoring and Control for Transmission Capability Enhancement, which published the Technical Brochure 330 in 2007. Since then the synchrophasor technology has advanced rapidly and man ...

This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for processing and quality improvement of synchrophasor data (SD). The proposed algorithm first recovers the missing SD reported by phasor measurement units (PMUs), and performs low-rank approximation on data strea ...

In this paper we evaluate the potential of distributed photovoltaic (PV) plants for providing primary voltage control to the local distribution grid. Compared to the existing literature, we design an algorithm that schedules the nodal active and reactive p ...
