Magnetic manipulation of objects within the body is a growing field of research since the second half of the last century. Therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities offered by such technology are extended with the clinical need to make procedures less invasi ...

Knowledge of frictional forces acting on the tips of minimally invasive medical devices is important in the design and simulation of such devices. Moreover, several studies have shown that uncontrolled frictional forces can induce damage to organs. The goa ...

Inspection of the colon with an endoscope for early signs of cancer (colonoscopy) has become an extremely widespread procedure, since early treatment radically improves the outlook of patients. The procedure requires a close coordination between the sense ...

Open source software have evolved into powerful tools for real-time control of mechatronic systems. They are of interest for academic purposes, as they promise high flexibility at low cost. In this paper, we investigate the performance of an open source co ...

The main goal of virtual reality based surgery simulators with haptic feedback is to provide an alternative to traditional training methods on animals, cadavers or real patients. Haptic feedback is a key feature for every surgery simulator for the training ...

Training for colonoscopy, which is the examination and treatment of the colon, is often performed on real patients once the physician has passed the novice level. This increases the risk to the patient and lengthens the procedure time. Since a decade ago, ...

The device (1 ) comprises an endoscopic interface (2) with a guiding tube (4) for guiding an endoscope, said tube (4) being mounted on bearings (5) for free rotation and comprising windows for allowing a contact between said endoscope and friction rollers ...

This paper describes the instrumentation of a clinical colonoscope needed for a novel colonoscopy simulation framework. The simulator consists of a compact and portable haptic interface and a virtual reality environment to provide real-time visualization. ...

A mechanical teleoperated device comprising: a slave unit (10) an end-effector (40) a master unit (20) and a handle (30). Mechanical transmission means are arranged to kinematically connect the slave unit (10) with the master unit (20) such that the moveme ...
