A recent internet based survey of over 35'000 samples has shown that when different human observers are asked to assign labels to static human facial expressions, different individuals categorize differently the same image. This fact results in a lack of a ...

We propose and validate a model for pedestrian walking behavior, based on discrete choice modeling. Two main types of behavior are identified: unconstrained and constrained. By unconstrained, we refer to behavior patterns which are independent from other i ...

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have triggered important research activities in the context of behavioral dynamics. Several new models and simulators for driving and travel behaviors, along with new integrated systems to manage various elements of ...

Data collected through a recent web-based survey show that the perception (i.e. labeling) of a human facial expression by a human observer is a subjective process, which results in a lack of a unique ground-truth, as intended in the standard classification ...

This paper addresses the issue of automatic classification of the six universal emotional categories (joy, surprise, fear, anger, disgust, sadness) in the case of static images. Appearance parameters are extracted by an active appearance model(AAM) represe ...

In this paper we propose to use clustering methods for automatic counting of pedestrians in video sequences. As input, we consider the output of those detection/ tracking systems that overestimate the number of targets. Clustering techniques are applied to ...

In this paper a new extension of the CONDENSATION algorithm, with application to infants face tracking, will be introduced. In this work we address the problem of tracking a face and its features in baby video sequences. A mixed state particle filtering sc ...

We propose a discrete choice framework for pedestrian dynamics, modelling short term behavior of individuals as a response to the presence of other pedestrians. We use a dynamic and individual-based spatial discretization, representing the physical space. ...

In this paper we address the problem of detection and tracking of pedestrians in complex scenarios. The inclusion of prior knowledge is more and more crucial in scene analysis to guarantee flexibility and robustness, necessary to have reliability in comple ...
