The paper presents a new initialization mechanism based on a Convex Combination Method (CCM) for Kohonen self-organizing Neural Networks (NNs) realized in the CMOS technology. A proper selection of initial values of the neuron weights exhibits a strong imp ...

Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or mobile phones applications are not anymore restricted to multimedia or wireless communications, but have been extended to handle Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) functionalities. The new generation of portable ...

According to a recent European Union report, lighting represents a significant share of electricity costs and the goal of reducing lighting power consumption by 20% demands the coupling of light-emitting diode (LED) lights with smart sensors and communicat ...

This paper characterizes the estimation performance of synthetic aperture (SA) techniques in the context of moving GNSS receivers. Under the assumption of a stationary channel, SA techniques transform a single antenna into a virtual array. We first introdu ...

In this paper, we present the design, fabrication, and electrical characterization of a low-power microwave source for interrogation of cesium atomic hyperfine transition frequency using the coherent population trapping (CPT) technique. The 4.6-GHz frequen ...

Numerous mobile applications and services require that devices are aware of their location. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are the predominant enabling technology. But in order to deliver continuous and accurate location information provided by ...

Numerous applications, not only Earth-based, but also space-based, have strengthened the interest of the international scientific community in using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) as navigation systems for space missions that require good accu ...

The use of the reflected Global Navigation Satellite Systems’ (GNSS) signals in Earth observation applications, referred to as GNSS reflectometry (GNSS-R), has been already studied for more than two decades. However, the estimation precision that can be ac ...

Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s) or mobile phones applications are not anymore restricted to wireless communications or multimedia, but have been extended to handle Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) functionalities. Consequently, the growing mar ...

This paper presents a microwave noise source implemented in a commercial CMOS technology. The circuit is based on the avalanche noise generated by both the source-to-bulk and the drain-to-bulk junctions in reverse breakdown. Two sources of different juncti ...

In this paper we present a computational model of dynamic visual attention on the sphere which combines static (intensity, chromaticity, orientation) and motion features in order to detect salient locations in omnidirectional image sequences while working d ...

The new GPS/Galileo/Compass signals use much longer code lengths and higher code frequencies than the GPS L1 C/A signal. As a result, they can provide improved ranging and anti-jamming performances. Unfortunately, their acquisition complexity is significan ...

The world of global navigation satellite systems has been enhanced with several new or improved signals in space aiming to optimize accuracy, reliability, navigation solution, and interoperability between different constellations. However, such development ...

A single GNSS antenna moving along a known trajectory can be used to synthesize a virtual array in order to apply spatial diversity techniques, e.g. beamforming. With these techniques, referred as synthetic aperture (SA) techniques, the receiver can mitiga ...

This paper describes a low power Ultra-Wideband Impulse Radio (UWB-IR) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) transmitter implemented in UMC 0.18 μm. This transmitter has been designed for low data rate communication applications and indoor positio ...

In Contreras-Vidal and colleagues have shown the feasibility of inferring the linear and angular kinematics of treadmill walking from scalp EEG. Here, we apply a discrete approach to the same problem of decoding the human gait. By reducing the gait process ...

The use of global navigation satellite system receivers for navigation still presents many challenges in urban canyon and indoor environments, where satellite availability is typically reduced and received signals are attenuated. To improve the navigation ...

The present invention relates to a location system, for locating at least one object within a predefined cell, comprising at least first and second receivers (A, B, C, D), first and second transmitters respectively, including first and second internal cloc ...

The majority of 3G mobile phones have an integrated GPS chip enabling them to calculate a navigation solution. But to deliver continuous and accurate location information, the satellite tracking process has to be stable and reliable. This is still challeng ...

The paper presents a new CMOS implementation of the initialization mechanism for Kohonen self-organizing neural networks. A proper selection of initial values of the weights of the neurons exhibits a significant impact on the quality of the learning proces ...
