Functional brain networks reconfigure spontaneously during rest. Such network dynamics can be studied by dynamic functional connectivity (dynFC); i.e., sliding-window correlations between regional brain activity. Key parameters-such as window length and cu ...

We propose a reconstruction scheme adapted to MRI that takes advantage of a sparsity constraint in the wavelet domain. We show that, artifacts are significantly reduced compared to conventional reconstruction methods. Our approach is also competitive with ...

Background Excessive and inconsolable crying behavior in otherwise healthy infants (a condition called infant colic (IC)) is very distressing to parents, may lead to maternal depression, and in extreme cases, may result in shaken baby syndrome. Despite the ...

Laser-Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is an outstanding tool to monitor blood flow in a continuous and non-invasive way. In this work, we study LDF at large interoptode spacing applied to a human bone model (i.e. tibia diaphysis). To that aim, we first performed a ...

Linking human behavior to resting-state brain function is a central question in systems neuroscience. In particular, the functional timescales at which different types of behavioral factors are encoded remain largely unexplored. The behavioral counterparts ...

Over the last two decades, a large variety of type I error rates and control procedures have been proposed in the field of multiple hypotheses testing. This paper proposes a framework that includes many existing proposals by investigating procedures in whi ...

Growth and form in biology are often associated with some level of fractality. Fractal characteristics have also been noted in a number of imaging modalities. These observations make fractal modelling relevant in the context of bio-imaging. ...

Background Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability, making the search for successful rehabilitation treatment one of the most important public health issues. A better understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying impairment and recovery is ...

The corpus callosum is the largest white matter pathway in the brain connecting the two hemispheres. In the context of developmental absence (agenesis) of the corpus callosum (AgCC), a proposed candidate for neuroplastic response is strengthening of intrah ...

Mapping the neural patterns that drive human behavior is a key challenge in neuroscience. Even the simplest of our everyday actions stem from the dynamic and complex interplay of multiple neural structures across the central nervous system (CNS). Yet, most ...

The default mode (DM) network is a major large-scale cerebral network that can be identified with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during resting state. Most studies consider functional connectivity networks as stationary phenomena. Consequentl ...

The dilation matrix associated with the three-dimensional (3-D) face-centered cubic (FCC) sublattice is often considered to be the natural 3-D extension of the two-dimensional (2-D) quincunx dilation matrix. However, we demonstrate that both dilation matri ...

Brain function exhibits coordinated activity patterns that are also reflected in anatomy, a finding that can be harnessed to constrain the dynamics of functional time series to the underlying structure while performing various signal processing operations. ...

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in investigating spontaneous brain activity, with a newfound focus on understanding the resting state activity of the spinal cord due to its importance in sensorimotor interactions. Previous studies have p ...

Brain communication, defined as information transmission through white-matter connections, is at the foundation of the brain's computational capacities that subtend almost all aspects of behavior: from sensory perception shared across mammalian species, to ...

Carry-over effects on brain states have been reported following emotional and cognitive events, persisting even during subsequent rest. Here, we investigated such effects by identifying recurring co-activation patterns (CAPs) in neural networks at rest wit ...

Red blood cells (RBCs) present unique reversible shape deformability, essential for both function and survival, resulting notably in cell membrane fluctuations (CMF). These CMF have been subject of many studies in order to obtain a better understanding of ...

Objective: The mapping of haemodynamic changes related to interictal epileptic discharges (IED) in simultaneous electroencephalography (EEG) and functional MRI (fMRI) studies is usually carried out by means of EEG-correlated fMRI analyses where the EEG inf ...

Essential tremor (ET) is the most common movement disorder. Its pathophysiology is only partially understood. Here, we leveraged graph theoretical analysis on structural covariance patterns quantified from morphometric estimates for cortical thickness, sur ...

Non-invasive characterization of brain structure has been made possible by the introduction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Graph modeling of structural connectivity has been useful, but is often limited to defining nodes as regions from a brain atlas ...
