Sleep favors the reactivation and consolidation of newly acquired memories. Yet, how our brain selects the noteworthy information to be reprocessed during sleep remains largely unknown. From an evolutionary perspective, individuals must retain information ...

Despite recent improvements, complete motor recovery occurs in < 15% of stroke patients. To improve the therapeutic outcomes, there is a strong need to tailor treatments to each individual patient. However, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the preci ...

Emotion dysregulation is central to the development and maintenance of psychopathology, and is common across many psychiatric disorders. Neurobiological models of emotion dysregulation involve the fronto-limbic brain network, including in particular the am ...

Objective To assess whether gait, neuropsychological, and multimodal MRI parameters predict short-term symptom reversal after cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tap test in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). Methods Thirty patients (79.3 +/- 5.9 years ...

Learning to play an instrument at an advanced age may help to counteract or slow down age-related cognitive decline. However, studies investigating the neural underpinnings of these effects are still scarce. One way to investigate the effects of brain plas ...

Motivated by the fractal-like behavior of natural images, we develop a smoothing technique that uses a regularization functional which is a fractional iterate of the Laplacian. This type of functional was initially introduced by Duchon for the approximatio ...

While aging is characterized by neurodegeneration, musical training is associated with experience-driven brain plasticity and protection against age-related cognitive decline. However, evidence for the positive effects of musical training mostly comes from ...

Neurofeedback based on real-time fMRI is an emerging technique that can be used to train voluntary control of brain activity. Such brain training has been shown to lead to behavioral effects that are specific to the functional role of the targeted brain ar ...

Neurofeedback based on real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging (rt-fMRI) is a novel and rapidly developing research field. It allows for training of voluntary control over localized brain activity and connectivity and has demonstrated promising cli ...

Background: Eating disorders (EDs) are serious psychiatric disorders characterized by impairments in neurocognition and altered brain structure. To date the majority of studies have investigated these in acutely ill or recovered individuals. Studying child ...

How the brain's white-matter anatomy constrains brain activity is an open question that might give insights into the mechanisms that underlie mental disorders such as schizophrenia. Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) is a neurodevelopmental dis ...

The Emo-FilM dataset stands for Emotion research using Films and fMRI in healthy participants. This dataset includes emotion annotations by 44 raters for 14 short films with a combined duration of over 2 1/2 hours and recordings of respiration, heart rate, ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive tomographic imaging modality that has provided insights into system-level brain function. New analysis methods are emerging to study the dynamic behavior of brain activity. The innovation-driven co-ac ...

Model-based statistical analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data relies on the general linear model and statistical hypothesis testing. Due to the large number of intracranial voxels, it is important to deal with the multiple compariso ...

Spatial neglect is a neuropsychological syndrome characterized by a failure to orient, perceive, and act toward the contralesional side of the space after brain injury. Neglect is one of the most frequent and disabling neuropsychological syndromes followin ...

Introduction: Imaging studies are used to guide patient selection for acute stroke treatment. Perfusion CT (pCT) is widely used to identify the acute ischemic core and penumbra, but the prediction of the final infarct remains challenging. With the advent o ...

The revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEOPI-R), popularly known as the five-factor model, defines five personality factors: Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. The structural correlates of these persona ...

The monogenic signal is the natural 2-D counterpart of the 1-D analytic signal. We propose to transpose the concept to the wavelet domain by considering a complexified version of the Riesz transform which has the remarkable property of mapping a real-value ...

Nodal properties are of particular importance when investigating patterns in brain networks. Nodal information is usually studied by comparing a few nodal measurements (up to three), resulting in analyses in three-dimensional spaces, at maximum. We offer a ...

Background: Modifications in brain function remain relatively unexplored in progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS), despite their potential to provide new insights into the pathophysiology of the disease at this stage. Objectives: To characterize the dynamic ...
