Objectives: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a highly heritable disorder characterized by emotion dysregulation and recurrent oscillations between mood states. Despite the proven efficacy of early interventions, vulnerability markers in high-risk individuals are s ...

In this paper, we use polyharmonic B-splines to build multidimensional wavelet bases. These functions are nonseparable, multidimensional basis functions that are localized versions of radial basis functions. We show that Rabut's elementary polyharmonic B-s ...

Source imaging maps back boundary measurements to underlying generators within the domain; e. g., retrieving the parameters of the generating dipoles from electrical potential measurements on the scalp such as in electroencephalography (EEG). Fitting such ...

We consider the problem of locating point sources in the planar domain from overdetermined boundary measurements of solutions of Poisson's equation. In this paper, we propose a novel technique, termed "analytic sensing," which combines the application of G ...

Brightfield microscopy often suffers from limited depth of field, which prevents thick specimens from being imaged entirely in-focus. By optically sectioning the specimen, the in-focus regions can be acquired over multiple images. Extended depth of field m ...

Standard interpolation techniques are implicitly based on the assumption that the signal lies on a single homogeneous domain. In contrast, many naturally occurring signals lie on an inhomogeneous domain, such as brain activity associated to different brain ...

A distinction is usually made between wavelet bases and wavelet frames. The former are associated with a one-to-one representation of signals, which is somewhat constrained but most efficient computationally. The latter are over-complete, but they offer ad ...

In the human brain, the corpus callosum is the major white-matter commissural tract enabling the transmission of sensory-motor, and higher level cognitive information between homotopic regions of the two cerebral hemispheres. Despite developmental absence ...

One of the ongoing challenges in single particle fluorescence microscopy resides in estimating the axial position of particles with sub-resolution precision. Due to the complexity of the diffraction patterns generated by such particles, the standard fittin ...

In this work, we propose a new image rotation algorithm. The main feature of our approach is the symmetric reversibility, which means that when using the same algorithm for the converse operation, then the initial data is recovered exactly. To that purpose ...

An important question in neuroscience is to reveal the relationship between individual performance and brain activity. This could be achieved by applying model regression techniques, in which functional connectivity derived from resting-state functional ma ...

Emotions are multifaceted phenomena affecting mind, body, and behavior. Previous studies sought to link particular emotion categories (e.g., fear) or dimensions (e.g., valence) to specific brain substrates but generally found distributed and overlapping ac ...

Given the large number of papers written over the last ten years on error controls in high dimensional multiple testing, it would be worthwhile to consider a single comprehensive technique that allows user flexibility in error control when dealing with big ...

Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia that can result from the loss of pancreatic insulin secreting β-cells in the islets of Langerhans. We analyzed ex vivo the entire gastric and duodenal lobes of a murine pancreas using extended-focus Optical Cohere ...

The number density of scatterers in tumor tissue contribute to a heterogeneous ultrasound speckle pattern that can be difficult to discern by visual observation. Such tumor stochastic behavior becomes even more challenging if the tumor texture heterogeneit ...

How movements are generated and controlled by the central nervous system (CNS) is still not well understood. In this work, we tested the hypothesis of a modular organization of the brain activity during the execution of voluntary movements. In particular, ...

Based on the class of complex gradient-Laplace operators, we show the design of a non-separable two-dimensional wavelet basis from a single and analytically defined generator wavelet function. The wavelet decomposition is implemented by an efficient FFT-ba ...

Magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) is a powerful tool capable of providing spatially localized maps of metabolite concentrations. Its utility, however, is often depreciated by spectral leakage artifacts resulting from low spatial resolution me ...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloidosis of brain tissues. This phenomenon is studied with genetically-modified mouse models. We propose a method to quantify amyloidosis in whole 5xFAD mouse brains, a model of AD. We use optical projection ...
