The investigation of innovative electrolytes based on nontoxic and nonflammable solvents is an up-to-date, intriguing challenge to push forward the environmental sustainability of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Water is one of the best choices, thus 1 ...

Increasing the photocurrent is one of the main objectives of the current research on aqueous photovoltaic cells, the emerging green, alternative technology in solar energy conversion devices. In such a scenario, this work deals with the thorough understand ...

We report a facile synthetic route to obtain functionalized quaterpyridine ligand and its trans-dithiocyanato ruthenium complex, based on a microwave-assisted procedure. The ruthenium complex has been purified using a silica chromatographic column by prote ...

The power conversion efficiency of a dye-sensitized solar cell with tailored squaraine dye enhanced by 47%, due to Forster resonance energy transfer from CdSe quantum dots to the squaraine dye. The incident photons to collection efficiency of electrons ind ...

Aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as the first truly safe, cheap and eco-friendly photovoltaic technology, at the same time overcoming the well-known instability upon moisture/water contamination typical of many solar cells. While man ...

O'Regan and Gratzel conceived a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC), which operates as an artificial photosynthetic system converting solar light into electricity. Nevertheless, it is only recently that the scientific community is focusing on truly aqueous DS ...

Nowadays, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are the most extensively investigated systems for the conversion of solar energy into electricity, particularly for implementation in devices where low cost and good performance are required. Nevertheless, a key ...

Isomerization of a neutral bis-cyclometalated iridium(III) complex has been observed for the first time during the preparation of vacuum-processed organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) and reproduced in solution. Isolation of the isomer revealed a cis org ...

Two novel symmetrical blue squaraine sensitizers were synthesized, which exhibit panchromatic light harvesting and a record efficiency over 6% with J(sc) exceeding 14 mA cm(-2), and V-oc over 620 mV under 1 sun. Their color, low cost, easiness of synthesis ...

Pyrene fluorescence intensity and conductivity measurements were used to determine the cmc of two monomeric surfactants namely, dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as well as two gemini surfactants, 16-3-16 2Br and 16-4-16 2 ...

A ruthenium complex trans-[Ru(L)(NCS)2], L ) 4,4¢¢¢-di- tert-butyl-4¢,4¢¢-bis(carboxylic acid)-2,2¢:6¢,2¢¢:6¢¢,2¢¢¢- quaterpyridine (N886), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The absorption spectrum of the N886 ...

A novel heteroleptic ruthenium complex carrying a heteroaromatic-4,4'-pi-conjugated 2,2'-bipyridine [Ru(II)LL'(NCS)(2)] (L = 4,4'-bis[(E)-2-(3,4-ethylenedioxythien-2-yl)vinyl]-2,2'-bipyridine, L' = 4,4'-(dicarboxylic acid)-2,2'-bipyridine) was synthesized ...

A green, efficient and stable solar cell based only on water and safe and cheap elements of the periodic table is proposed in this work, finally consolidating (also from a sustainability viewpoint) the concept of "artificial photosynthesis" studied for dec ...

A novel bifunctional linker molecule, bis(4-mercaptophenyl)phosphinic acid, is designed to be used in a QDs solar cells. The linker anchors to TiO2 mesoporous film through the phosphinic acid functional group and to the PbS QDs through the two thiol groups ...

Aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have recently emerged as promising systems, which can combine low cost and environmental compatibility with appreciable efficiency, long-term durability and enhanced safety. In the present study, we thoroughly inv ...

A symmetric squaraine and its related non-symmetric structure are shown to have comparable efficiencies in DSCs, but with undoubtedly advantages in the low cost and casiness of synthesis for the symmetrical structure. ...
