With the commoditization of digital devices, personal information and media sharing is becoming a key application on the pervasive Web. In such a context, data annotation rather than data production is the main bottleneck. Metadata scarcity represents a ma ...

Non-trivial search predicates beyond mere equality are at the current focus of P2P research. Structured queries, as an important type of non-trivial search, have been studied extensively mainly for unstructured P2P systems so far. As unstructured P2P syste ...

The growing number of web services advocates distributed discovery infrastructures which are semantics-enabled and support quality of service (QoS). In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for semantic discovery of web services in P2P-based registries ...

We present an extensible and customizable framework for the autonomous discovery of Semantic Web services based on their QoS properties. Using semantic technologies, users can specify the QoS matching model and customize the ranking of services flexibly ac ...

The success of the P2P idea has created a huge diversity of approaches, among which overlay networks, for example, Gnutella, Kazaa, Chord, Pastry, Tapestry, P-Grid, or DKS, have received specific attention from both developers and researchers. A wide varie ...

Despite the proliferation of Internet-of-Things (IoT) platforms for building and deploying IoT applications in the cloud, there is still no easy way to integrate heterogeneous geographically and administratively dispersed sensors and IoT services in a sema ...

Structured P2P systems based on distributed hash tables are a popular choice for building large-scaled data management systems. Generally, they only support exact match queries, but data heterogeneities often demand for more complex query types, particular ...

Large-scale distributed data management with P2P systems requires the existence of similarity operators for queries as we cannot assume that all users will agree on exactly the same schema and value representations and data quality problems due to spelling ...

With the price of wireless sensor technologies diminishing rapidly we can expect large numbers of autonomous sensor networks being deployed in the near future. These sensor networks will typically not remain isolated but the need of interconnecting them on ...

The limitations of client/server systems become evident in an Internet-scale distributed environment. Peer-topeer (P2P) systems offer an interesting alternative to traditional client/server systems: Every node acts both as a client and a server and “ ...

Directory services are a genuine constituent of any distributed architecture which facilitate binding attributes to names and then querying this information, that is, announcing and discovering resources. In such contexts, especially in a business environm ...

Identification is an essential building block for many services in distributed information systems. The quality and purpose of identification may differ, but the basic underlying problem is always to bind a set of attributes to an identifier in a unique an ...

QoS-based service selection mechanisms will play an essential role in service-oriented architectures, as e-Business applications want to use services that most accurately meet their requirements. Standard approaches in this field typically are based on the ...

The P-Grid approach enables distributed search and replication. Gridella, a P2P system based on P-Grid, improves on Gnutella’s search performance while reducing bandwidth requirements. Fu ...

The idea of collecting and combining large public data sets and services became more and more popular. The special characteristics of such systems and the requirements of the participants demand for strictly decentralized solutions. However, this comes alo ...
