A new lower rim substituted calix[8]arene bearing eight phosphine oxide moieties has been synthesized. The structure of 5,11,17,23,29,35,41,47-octa(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)-49,50,51,52,53,54,55,56-octakis(dimethylphosphinoylmethyleneoxy)calix[8]arene (S) ...

Chemoselective autoxidation of 4-imino-1,5-dimethyl-3-(4-nitrophenyl) imidazolidin-2-one (1b) to its 5-hydroxy derivative 2 occurred in solutions of DMSO-d(6), acetonitrile-d(3) or refluxing ethanol. Also bis(imidazolidin-5-yl) peroxide 5 was isolated as a ...

Gadolinium(III) complexes have recently been demonstrated to have potential as polarizing agents for high-field dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) NMR spectroscopy. By tailoring the ligand design to reduce the zero-field splitting (ZFS), we demonstrate a q ...

Among the 14 lanthanide elements (Ce-Lu), until recently, the tetravalent oxidation state was readily accessible in solution only for cerium while Pr(iv), Nd(iv), Dy(iv) and Tb(iv) had only been detected in the solid state. The triphenylsiloxide ligand rec ...

Multiphoton excited luminescent properties of water-soluble EuIII and TbIII complexes with derivatives of dipicolinic acid functionalized with a polyoxyethylene pendant arm and terminal groups, [Eu(LOMe)3]3-, [Eu(LNH2)3]3-, and [Tb(LOH)3]3-, as well as of ...

The ionic liquid crystal [C12-mim]Cl has been doped with 5 mol% europium nitrate and the photophysical properties of both the ionic liquid and the trivalent europium ion have been monitored with respect to temperature in the range of 248 to +120 uC. The re ...

Rigidtritopic linkers of different sizes were used to buildporous U-(IV) and Th-(IV) 3D frameworks. The charge of the polymerscould be tuned by reaction conditions such as the temperature, pH,solvent, ligand, or metal precursor, yielding a series of neutra ...

The phosphinoyl-substituted macrocyclic receptor B8bL8, derived from p-tert-butylcalix[8]arene, was synthesized and its structure was studied in solution. According to temperaturedependent 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopic data, the calix[8]arene adopts a so-ca ...

The homoditopic ligand

H_2L^{C3}

has been designed to form neutral triple-stranded bimetallic helicates of overall composition [

Ln_2(L^{C3})_3

]. The grafting of the polyoxyethylene fragments ensures water solubility and also favors cell penetration whi ...

A series of hexadentate ditopic receptors incorporating benzimidazole moieties have been designed, which are fitted with phosphonic acid or phosphoethylester coordinating units. In addition, poly(oxyethylene) pendants have been introduced on the benzimidaz ...

The cellular uptake mechanism and intracellular distribution of emissive lanthanide helicates have been elucidated by time-resolved luminescence microscopy (TRLM). The helicates are non-cytotoxic and taken up by normal (HaCat) and cancer (HeLa, MCF-7) cell ...

Thesynthesis of molecular uranium complexes in oxidation stateslower than +3 remains a challenge despite the interest for their multielectrontransfer reactivity and electronic structures. Herein, we report theone- and two-electron reduction of a U(III) com ...

Tris(β-diketonato)europium(III) with a series of variably fluorinated ligands derived from 3,5-heptanedione were synthesised with the aim of determining their hydration state under extraction conditions. The number of coordinated water molecules was determ ...

We demonstrate that a carbon-bridged phenylenevinylene (CPV)-linked dye serves as a novel and efficient sensitizer for dye-sensitized solar cells. The cells show IPCE values of greater than 90%, PCEs of up to 7.12%, and high open circuit voltages reaching ...

Lanthanide bioprobes and bioconjugates are ideal luminescent stains in view of their low propensity to photobleaching, sharp emission lines and long excited state lifetimes permitting time-resolved detection for enhanced sensitivity. In this paper, we expa ...

Water-soluble triple-stranded [Ln2(L)3] helicates have been successfully tested as imaging probes in human cervical adenocarcinoma cells (HeLa), the complex being not toxic and clearly staining their cytoplasm in a concentrationdependent manner. ...

Derivatives of dipicolinic acid with a polyoxyethylene pendant arm at the pyridine 4-position have been functionalized for potential grafting with biological material. Four ligands with different terminal functions (alcohol, methoxy, phtalimide and amine) ...

The novel hydroxyquinoline-containing tetrapodal ligand forms water soluble and stable chelates and is a good sensitizer of the NIR luminescence of its NdIII and YbIII complexes; its easy synthesis opens the way for potential biomedical applications. ...
