Post mortem analysis shows that mid and high atomic number metallic impurities are present in deposits on JET plasma facing components with the highest amount of Ni and W, and therefore the largest sink, being found at the top of the inner divertor. Source ...

We present recent highlights from the most recent operation phases of Wendelstein 7-X, the most advanced stellarator in the world. Stable detachment with good particle exhaust, low impurity content, and energy confinement times exceeding 100 ms, have been ...

The recently developed Monte-Carlo code ERO2.0 is applied to the modelling of limited and diverted discharges at JET with the ITER-like wall (ILW). The global beryllium (Be) erosion and deposition is simulated and compared to experimental results from pass ...

Selected set of samples from JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor tiles exposed both in 2013-2014 and 2011-2014 has been analysed using Thermal Desorption Spectrometry (TDS). The deuterium (D) amounts obtained with TDS were compared with Ion Beam Analysis ...

A general set of equations that govern global resistive interchange, resistive internal kink and resistive infernal modes in a toroidal axisymmetric equilibrium are systematically derived in detail. Tractable equations are developed such that resistive eff ...

It is well known that parallel magnetic field fluctuations are connected with finite plasma beta effects. It can therefore be expected that Reduced Models that simplify or neglect the parallel magnetic field may not capture the salient physics of all types ...

In plasmas heated with deuterium beams a deficit of the expected fusion neutron rate is an indicator of the deterioration of the fast-ion confinement, caused, for instance, by magnetohydrodynamic instabilities. The capability of predicting this deficit dur ...

In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of type-I edge-localized modes (ELM) time series from the JET tokamak, the world's largest magnetic confinement plasma physics experiment, have been investigated through recurrence plots (RPs). The analysis has be ...

A plasma resistivity-β driving mechanism aimed at explaining the appearance of long wavelength global instabilities in free boundary high-β tokamak plasmas with a divertor is presented. These perturbations resemble very closely the resistive wall mode phen ...

An analytic derivation of the dispersion relation for resistive instabilities in a low-shear tokamak configuration is presented. The resistive infernal mode model (Charlton et al 1989 Phys. Fluids B 1 798) is generalized to include plasma diamagnetism, sub ...

The problem of pressure driven infernal type perturbations near the plasma edge is addressed analytically for a circular limited tokamak configuration which presents an edge flattened safety factor. The plasma is separated from a metallic wall, either idea ...

Neutron activation technique has been widely used for the monitoring of neutron fluence at the Joint European Torus (JET) whereas it is foreseen to be employed at future fusion plants, such as ITER and DEMO. Neutron activation provides a robust tool for th ...

For many years, machine learning tools have proved to be very powerful disruption predictors in tokamaks. On the other hand, the vast majority of the techniques deployed assume that the input data is independent and is sampled from exactly the same probabi ...

Hot spots on the divertor tiles at JET result in overestimation of the tile surface temperature which causes unnecessary termination of pulses. However, the appearance of hot spots can also indicate the condition of the divertor tile surfaces. To analyse t ...
