Fusion power is the most significant prospects in the long-term future of energy in the sense that it composes a potentially clean, cheap, and unlimited power source that would substitute the widespread traditional nonrenewable energies, reducing the geogr ...

Fusion power may be seen as the energy of the future in the sense that it composes a potentially clean, cheap and unlimited power source that would reduce the worldwide dependency on non-renewable energies. Nevertheless, while nowadays the fusion reaction ...

The effects of negative triangularity () on confinement and fluctuations in plasmas covering a large range of parameters were investigated on the tokamak à configuration variable (TCV). The conditions explored in this paper include discharges where neutral ...

In the moderate magnetic field of TCV (1.5 T), the recently installed X3 system (3 gyrotrons, 118 GHz, 0.45 MW each, 2 s) broadens the operational space with the possibility of heating plasmas at high density, well above the cutoff density of the X2 system ...

On the Tokamak a Configuration Variable (TCV), electron internal transport barriers (eITBs) can be formed during a gradual evolution from a centrally peaked to a hollow current profile while all external actuators are held constant. The formation occurs ra ...

We report on the installation of fast polarizers for ECRH injection and ECE diagnostics, in the TCV tokamak. The main goal is to change the polarization during a plasma shot and react to changing conditions such as: plasma current and position, ECRH inject ...

An overview of recent results obtained at the tokamak ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) is given. A work flow for predictive profile modelling of AUG discharges was established which is able to reproduce experimental H-mode plasma profiles based on engineering parameter ...

Electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostics on Tokamak a Configuration Variable (TCV) allow study of the electron temperature evolution in time with good spatial and temporal resolution at the high field side and low field side at various lines of sight. ...

In addition to the second harmonic X-mode (X2) electron cyclotron heating (ECH), the TCV ECH system has been completed with three 450 kW gyrotrons operating at the frequency of 118 GHz for third harmonic X-mode (X3) in a top-launch configuration. In the re ...

In this paper, a diagnostic for the measurement of the electron cyclotron emission (ECE) from non-thermal electrons in magnetically confined fusion plasmas is presented. The diagnostic employs a vertical viewing line of sight that allows us to directly inf ...

Electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of high-density tokamak plasmas is limited because of reflections of the waves at so-called wave cutoffs. Electron Bernstein wave (EBW) heating (EBWH) via a double mode conversion process from ordinary (O)-mode, ...

The Alfvén instability nonlinearly excited the energetic-particle-driven geodesic acoustic mode on the ASDEX-Upgrade tokamak, as demonstrated experimentally. The mechanism of the energetic-particle-driven geodesic acoustic mode excitation and the mode nonl ...

The EC-system of the TCV tokamak is progressively being upgraded with the addition of two MW-class dual-frequency gyrotrons (84 and 126 GHz/2s/1MW). In order to connect the two gyrotrons to the existing low field side and top launchers, new waveguide routi ...

Radially localized electron cyclotron heating (ECH) at the 2nd harmonic (X2) is used to tailor the current profile through the modification of the temperature, and hence conductivity, profiles. The optimal conditions for current profile broadening are inve ...

Observations of fishbone oscillations driven by energetic electrons have been reported in several tokamaks, but experimental evidence of the interaction between electrons and the mode has remained limited. In the TCV tokamak, a state-of-the-art multi-chann ...

Electron-scale micro-turbulence driven by the electron temperature gradient (ETG) instability has recently been shown to impact the electron heat transport in tokamaks. Given the relevance of these mechanisms for ITER scenarios, a new study has been carrie ...

A high vacuum and high temperature compatible viewing dump, made of MACOR, was designed and installed in TCV for Vertical ECE experiments in the 75-110 GHz frequency range. Measurements of the dump prior to installation in the tokamak showed in more than 9 ...

Here we present the first measurements by collective Thomson scattering of the evolution of fast-ion populations in a magnetically confined fusion plasma. 150 kW and 110 Ghz radiation from a gyrotron were scattered in the TEXTOR tokamak plasma with energet ...

Electron heat transport experiments are performed in L-mode discharges at various plasma triangularities, using radially localized electron cyclotron heating to vary independently both the electron temperature T-e and the normalized electron temperature gr ...

In the moderate magneticfield of TCV (1.5T), the recently installed X3 system (3 gyrotrons @118 GHz, 0.45 MW/each, 2s) broadens the operational space with the possibility of heating plasmas at high density, well above the cutoff density of the X2 system (X ...
