PURPOSE: To perform high speed and completely non-invasive 3D angiography at the optic nerve head region and to reconstruct vectorial 3D blood flow from optically segmented blood vessel structure as a pre-requisite for testing retinal function and physiolo ...

Endocrine beta cells produce and release insulin in order to tightly regulate glucose homeostasis and prevent metabolic pathologies such as Diabetes Mellitus. Optical imaging has contributed greatly to our current understanding of beta cell structure and f ...

In this work we present a model for image formation in optical coherence microscopy. In the spectral domain detection, each wavenumber has a specific coherent transfer function that samples a different part of the object's spatial frequency spectrum. The r ...

Aims/hypothesis It is generally accepted that structural and functional quantitative imaging of individual islets would be beneficial to elucidate the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. We here introduce functional optical coherence imaging (FOCI) for fast, ...

The present invention relates to a functional optical coherent imaging (fOCI) platform comprising at least one active camera unit (ACU) comprising a coherent and/or a partially coherent light source, and means for spectral filtering and imaging a selected ...

The invention relates to an optical coherence microscopy system for fast, phase resolved imaging by means of optical coherence microscopy with decoupled illumination and detection apertures, producing a dark-field effect with an enhanced optical contrast. ...

Aims/hypothesis Structural and functional imaging of the islets of Langerhans and the insulin-secreting beta cells represents a significant challenge and a long-lasting objective in diabetes research. In vivo microscopy offers a valuable insight into beta ...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an interferometric imaging technique that can provide depth resolved cross-sectional views of biological tissue. OCT employs light with low temporal and yet high spatial coherence. The sample is illuminated point by po ...

Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia that can result from the loss of pancreatic insulin secreting β-cells in the islets of Langerhans. We analyzed ex vivo the entire gastric and duodenal lobes of a murine pancreas using extended-focus Optical Cohere ...

We report on a new detection scheme for Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy that exhibits high transverse resolution along an axially extended focal range. Nearly constant transverse resolution of ∼1.5 μm along a focal range of 200 μm is experiment ...

We introduce photothermal optical lock-in Optical Coherence Microscopy (poli-OCM), a volumetric imaging technique, which combines the depth sectioning of OCM with the high sensitivity of photothermal microscopy while maintaining the fast acquisition speed ...

The invention concerns an optical imaging apparatus comprising (o) a light source (1) , (p) sample holding means, (q) an interferometer, (r) reference means, (s) an objective (8) which is adapted to have its sample side focal plane crossing a sample held i ...

Dark-field illumination is known to enhance scattering contrast in optical microscopy. We combined this concept with Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy (OCM). The detection and illumination paths are decoupled, and only the scattered light origina ...

We demonstrate label-free imaging of cerebral β-amyloidosis ex vivo and in a living mouse model of Alzheimer's disease using extended focus Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy (xfOCM). xfOCM provides 3D, high-resolution images of individual β-amylo ...
