Dematerialized music and MP3 players offer to the user the possibility of carrying his musical content everywhere. However, at home, the music collection is generally not centralized, split between different rooms and audio supports (CDs, MP3s, etc). In th ...

We present the results of an evaluation study in the framework of user interfaces for teleoperation of vehicles. We developed a virtual cockpit with haptic feedback provided by a Haptic Workstation™. Four alternative teleoperation interfaces were implement ...

We have designed a wearable Mixed Reality (MR) framework which allows to real-time render game-like 3D scenes on see-through head-mounted displays (see through HMDs) and to localize the user position within aknown internet wireless area. Our equipment weig ...

We have developed a learning platform to simplify and improve teaching and practice of computer graphics for beginners and advanced students. Our goal is to offer a set of tools to help students having a better mental vision of the abstract notions introdu ...

Virtual Environments (VE) are mainly visual experiments that exclude visually impaired people. In this paper we present an application that should allow almost everybody to ``see'' or at least to perceive 3D shapes. We will first describe the mandatory asp ...

Pre-existing researches [Salamin et al. 2006] showed that Third-Person Perspective (3PP) enhances user navigation in 3D virtual environments by reducing proprio-perception issues. Nevertheless, this approach has shown drawbacks related to occlusions and ad ...

Improving quality, design and comfort is very important for high technology companies in order to stay competitive against the other enterprises. A present problem is that the new physical dedicated prototypes they need to create for the tests are very exp ...

This paper presents an obstacle detection system for visually impaired people. User can be alerted of closed obstacles in range while traveling in their environment. The system we propose detects the nearest obstacle via a stereoscopic sonar system and sen ...

CAVE systems are nowadays one of the best Virtual Reality (VR) immersive devices available for rendering virtual environments. Unfortunately, such kind of hardware is extremely expensive, complex and cum-bersome, thus limited in its spread. Several cheaper ...

Most of the efforts concerning graphical representations of humans (Virtual Humans) have been focused on synthesizing geometry for static or animated shapes. The next step is to consider a human body not only as a 3D shape, but as an active semantic entity ...

Despite the fact that dematerialization of all our multimedia content brings advantages, the absence of physical medium brings also a lack of tangibility. This paper presents a gesture-based interface to bring back tangibility in our dematerialized multime ...

Expressive facial animation synthesis of human like characters has had many approaches with good results. MPEG-4 standard has functioned as the basis of many of those approaches. In this paper we would like to lay out the knowledge of some of those approac ...

Despite its history of several decades and impressive achievements, developing a VR application is still a complex task. Setting-up a Virtual Environment requires choosing a suitable combination of elements from a large amount of technologies, software fra ...

In this paper, we present our on-going work towards grasping in an object manipulation context. Our proposal is a novel method that combines a tubular feature classification algorithm, a hand grasp posture generation algorithm and an animation framework fo ...

This paper describes a system with several fixed cameras that provide Third-Person Perspective (3PP) to the video-through HMD of the user. Once done, our system uses an algorithm to make intelligent switches between the different cameras in order to provid ...

News aggregators are widely used to read RSS feeds but they require the user to be in front of a screen. While moving, people usually do not have any display, or very small ones. Moreover, they need to perform actions to get access to the news: download a ...
