The present paper evaluated a sugarcane biorefinery producing ethanol, through the conventional process by sugars fermentation and methanol through bagasse and leaves gasification, hot cleaning and synthesis. The sugarcane biorefinery was modelled using fl ...

Aluminium sector relies on natural gas for recycling scrap into feedstock, contributing ~2% to the global industrial CO2 emissions. Hydric resources are used as cooling media for aluminium direct chill casting, and waste heat is typically rejected to near ...

Models for hydrolysis, fermentation and concentration process, production and utilization of biogas as well as lignin gasification are developed to calculate the heat demand of ethanol production process and the amounts of heat and power generated from res ...

In the public and scientific debate on biofuels, ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass is generally the most popular alternative that may allow for a sustainable production. Compared to thermochemical processing of biomass which assures a complete conversio ...

Integrated methanol synthesis and methanol-to-olefins systems are considered attractive and promising technologies to produce light olefins from syngas derived from biomass feedstock. In this study, a flowsheet model of a proposed system was developed and ...

The management of plastic waste is a growing concern that can harm wildlife and ecosystems, and its end-of-life policies are key to mitigating plastic environmental impact. This work presents a decision-making methodology for the thermal and material valor ...

A systematic comparison and optimization of thermo-chemical hydrogen production processes with CO2 capture is performed. The process options include the resource type, the syngas production method and the hydrogen purification technology, including CO2 sep ...

Aluminium is one of the most widely used metals in the world, but its production is highly energy intensive and largely dependent on the use of fossil fuels. A typical secondary aluminium production facility consumes 700-1,000 kWh of natural gas and 200-40 ...

It is the aim of the present invention to provide a system and a process for hydrothermal SNG production from waste biomass having a design of the product separation that not only considers the grid quality specifications for SNG, but also the recovery of ...

Annealing furnaces are critical for achieving the desired material properties in the production of high-quality aluminum products. In addition, energy efficiency has become more and more important in industrial processes due to increasing decarbonization r ...

This paper describes the City Energy Analyst (CEA), a computational framework for the analysis and optimization of energy systems in neighborhoods and city districts. The framework allows analyzing the energy, carbon and financial benefits of multiple urba ...

TSA (total site analysis) has shown to be an efficient tool for identifying heat integration measures in industrial clusters, leading to the optimal design of utility systems and energy bill reduction. In order to justify investments, any proposed utility ...

In this work, the gasification of the black liquor is proposed as an alternative ammonia production route. Due to the seasonal variation of the energy prices, a multi-time integration approach that combines different technologies and energy inputs is used ...

Aluminium is recognized as an essential material for the global energy transition. However, its production is extremely energy-intensive and largely dependent on fossil fuels. The aluminium industry emits more than 1.11 Gt CO2-eq annually. Multiple obstacl ...

The design of user-level integrated energy systems is challenged by a variety of combinations of energy converters, complex cascade utilization of multiple energy flows, as well as sequential matching between stochastic energy resources and periodic energy ...

A growing number of technologies are being developed in order to produce different high added value products, such as phytochemicals, ethanol and other chemicals from biomass, representing an important trend that needs to be evaluated. The use of pressuriz ...

Currently, electricity generation and second-generation ethanol production from lignocellulosic feedstocks represent technological alternatives in the bioenergy sector. Nevertheless, the introduction of new production processes denotes a real challenge due ...

The sugarcane industry has been responsible in some countries for the production of most of the sugar and ethanol available in the world for internal and external markets. In this sector, ethanol can be produced by fermentation of sugars obtained directly ...

In recent times the interest in electricity production with Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) has increased. A look into recent publications shows that the identification of suitable working fluids is in general done by a look at a more or less small number of ...

A fully renewable Europe is a major climate goal and an assumed priority by the European Union. However, intermittent renewables require hefty backup power sources to compensate for sudden generation shortfalls, ensuring grid stability and balance across t ...
