Distance bounding protocols become important since wireless technologies become more and more common. Therefore, the security of the distance bounding protocol should be carefully analyzed. However, most of the protocols are not secure or their security is ...

The NIST standard FF3 scheme (also known as BPS scheme) is a tweakable block cipher based on a 8-round Feistel Network. We break it with a practical attack. Our attack exploits the bad domain separation in FF3 design. The attack works with chosen plaintext ...

In this article we present a lattice attack done on a NTRU-like scheme introduced by Verkhovsky in [1]. We show how, based on the relation between the public and private key, we can construct an attack which allows any passive adversary to decrypt the encrypted messages. We explain, step by step, how an attacker can construct an equivalent private key and guess what the original plaintext was. Our attack is efficient and provides good experimental results.

We study both distinguishing and key-recovery attacks against E0, the keystream generator used in Bluetooth by means of correlation. First, a powerful computation method of correlations is formulated by a recursive expression, which makes it easier to calculate correlations of the finite state machine output sequences up to 26 bits for E0 and allows us to verify the two known correlations to be the largest for the first time. Second, we apply the concept of convolution to the analysis of the distinguisher b

he Vaudenay model for RFID privacy from Asiacrypt 2007 suffers from the impossibility to address strong privacy. It has however been shown by Ng et al. at ESORICS 2008 that the impossibility result leads to no practical threat, so that the definition from ...

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently announced the public-key cryptosystems (PKC) that have passed to the second round of the post-quantum standardization process. Most of these PKC come in two flavours: a weak IND-CPA vers ...

From contactless payments to remote car unlocking, many applications are vulnerable to relay attacks. Distance bounding protocols are the main practical countermeasure against these attacks. At FSE 2013, we presented SKI as the first family of provably sec ...

The Learning With Error problem (LWE) is becoming more and more used in cryptography, for instance, in the design of some fully homomorphic encryption schemes. It is thus of primordial importance to find the best algorithms that might solve this problem so ...

This paper describes and analyzes the security of a general-purpose cryptographic function design, with application in RFID tags and sensor networks. Based on these analyzes, we suggest minimum parameter values for the main components of this cryptographic ...

Simple password authentication is often used e.g. from an e-mail software application to a remote IMAP server. This is frequently done in a protected peer-to-peer tunnel, e.g. by SSL/TLS. At Eurocrypt'02, Vaudenay (2002) presented vulnerabilities in padding schemes used for block ciphers in CBC mode. He used a side channel, namely error information in the padding verification. This attack was not possible against SSL/TLS due to both unavailability of the side channel (errors are encrypted) and premature abo

The ARMADILLO cryptographic primitive is a multi-purpose cryptographic primitive for RFID devices proposed at CHES’10. The main purpose of the primitive is to provide a secure authentication in a challenge-response protocol. It has two versions, named ARMA ...

A number of authentication protocols have been proposed recently, where at least some part of the authentication is performed during a phase, lasting

rounds, with no error correction. This requires assigning an acceptable threshold for the number of detected errors. This paper describes a framework enabling an expected loss analysis for all the protocols in this family. Furthermore, computationally simple methods to obtain nearly optimal value of the threshold, as well as for the number of rounds is sug

In CHES 2017, Jean et al. presented a paper on "Bit-Sliding" in which the authors proposed lightweight constructions for SPN based block ciphers like AES, PRESENT and SKINNY. The main idea behind these constructions was to reduce the length of the datapath ...

Cryptography often meets the problem of distinguishing distributions. In this paper we review techniques from hypothesis testing to express the advantage of the best distinguisher limited to a given number of samples. We link it with the Chernoff informati ...

Passports are now equipped with RFID chips that contain private information, biometric data, and a digital signature by issuing authorities. We review most of applicable security and privacy issues. We argue that the main privacy issue is not unauthorized ...

Tamper-proof devices are pretty powerful. They can be used to have better security in applications. In this work we observe that they can also be maliciously used in order to defeat some common privacy protection mechanisms. We propose the theoretical mode ...

The best way of selecting samples in algebraic attacks against block ciphers is not well explored and understood. We introduce a simple strategy for selecting the plaintexts and demonstrate its strength by breaking reduced-round KATAN, LBLOCK and SIMON. Fo ...

A method for providing efficient management of certificate revocation may comprise storing a list of identifiers of digital certificates including a revocation list defining a list of revoked certificates in an accumulator, storing a witness value in assoc ...

Tamper-proof devices are pretty powerful. They typically make security applications simpler (provided that the tamper-proof assumption is not violated). For application requiring privacy, we observe that some properties may become harder (if possible at all) to achieve when devices are maliciously used. We take the example of deniability, receipt-freeness, and anonymity. We formalize the trusted agent model which assumes tamper-proof hardware in a way which captures the notion of programmable secure hardwar
