A method is presented to produce probability distributions for regional climate change in surface temperature and precipitation. The method combines a probability distribution for global mean temperature increase with the probability distributions for the ...

A probabilistic assessment of climate change and related impacts should consider a large range of potential future climate scenarios. State-of-the-art climate models, especially coupled atmosphere-ocean general circulation models and Regional Climate Model ...

This paper compares the performance of seven disaggregation models, based on various approaches and/or concepts, for the generation of 10mn time step rainfall series from hourly rainfall series. The so-called constant disaggregation model and a linear mode ...

The present study analyzes the uncertainty induced by the use of different state-of-the-art climate models on the prediction of climate change impacts on the runoff regimes of 11 mountainous catchments in the Swiss Alps having current glaciation rates betw ...

This paper addresses two major challenges in the field of climate change impact analysis on water resources systems: i) incorporation of a large range of potential climate change scenarios and ii) quantification of related modelling uncertainties. The deve ...

Optimal water resources management requires hydrological scenarios for the climate situation under consideration. These scenarios may be produced from meteorological scenarios thanks to an appropriate hydrological model. The Laboratory "Hydrology and Land ...

This paper presents a calibration framework for a precipitation-runoff model for flood prediction in a mesoscale Alpine basin with strongly anthropogenic discharges. The developed methodology addresses two classical hydrological calibration challenges: com ...

This book presents the main hydrological methods and techniques used in the design and operation of hydraulic projects and the management of water resources and associated natural risks. It covers the key topics of water resources engineering, from the estimation of runoff volumes and unit hydrographs to the routing of flows along a river and through lakes, reservoirs, and hydraulic structures. It deals with questions regarding basic hydrological data, hydrological modeling and the prediction and forecastin

High spatio-temporal resolution monitoring has only been progressively developed in the Rhine–Meuse basins over the last few decades. As a consequence, basic hydrological information can be very scarce in some areas. In regions which are homogeneous from a hydroclimatological and physiogeographical point of view, hydrographs can be reproduced via regionalized hydrological models, provided that climatological observation series are available. The Alzette river basin, monitored since the mid-1990s by a ver

In the urban environment, stormwater detention basins are a powerful means to limit the frequency of sewer system failures and consecutive urban flooding. To design such waterworks or to check their efficiency, it is possible to carry out continuous rainfall-runoff modelling. A long-term discharge series obtained from a long-term rainfall series is used as input for a storage model describing the detention basin behaviour: the basin behaviour may be consequently studied over a long period. The provided stat

To aid assessments of climate change impacts on water related activities in the case study regions (CSRs) of the EC funded project SWURVE, estimates of uncertainty in climate model data need to be developed. In this paper, two methods to estimate uncertain ...

The present work analyzes the climate change impacts on the runoff regimes of mountainous catchments in the Swiss Alps having current glaciation rates between 0 and 50 %. The hydrological response of 11 catchments to a given climate scenario is simulated through a conceptual, reservoir-based precipitation-runoff transformation model called GSM-SOCONT (Schaefli, 2005). For the glacierized catchments, the glacier surface corresponding to this future scenario is updated through a conceptual glacier surface evo

In high mountainous catchments, the spatial precipitation and therefore the overall water balance is generally difficult to estimate. The present paper describes the structure and calibration of a semi-lumped conceptual glaciohydrological model for the joi ...

This paper presents a combined downscaling and disaggregation weather generator developed for multisite generation of hourly precipitation and temperature time series over complex terrain. Daily regional weather variables are first generated from Generaliz ...
