Blood flow in the arterial circulation induces hemodynamic forces that play an important role in various forms of vascular diseases. Temporal variation of the wall shear stress seems to play a significant role in atherogenesis and plaque stability. Flow in ...

Reymond P, Bohraus Y, Perren F, Lazeyras F, Stergiopulos N. Validation of a patient-specific one-dimensional model of the systemic arterial tree. Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 301: H1173-H1182, 2011. First published May 27, 2011; doi:10.1152/ajpheart.008 ...

A distributed model of the human arterial tree including all main systemic arteries coupled to a heart model is developed. The one-dimensional (1-D) form of the momentum and continuity equations is solved numerically to obtain pressures and flows throughou ...

Decrease in arterial compliance leads to an increased pulse pressure, as explained by the Windkessel effect. Pressure waveform is the sum of a forward running and a backward running or reflected pressure wave. When the arterial system stiffens, as a result ...

Haemodynamics is believed to play an important role in the initiation, growth and rupture of intracranial aneurysms. In this context, computational haemodynamics has been extensively used in an effort to establish correlations between flow variables and cl ...

Martin BA, Reymond P, Novy J, Baledent O, Stergiopulos N. A coupled hydrodynamic model of the cardiovascular and cerebrospinal fluid system. Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 302: H1492-H1509, 2012. First published January 20, 2012; doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.006 ...

Background Successful direct thromboaspiration (DTA) is related to several factors such as clot consistency, size, and location. It has also been demonstrated recently that the angle of interaction (AOI) formed by the aspiration catheter and the clot is re ...

Recent advance in imaging modalities used frequently in clinical routine can provide description of the geometrical and hemodynamical properties of the arterial tree in great detail. The combination of such information with models of blood flow of the arte ...

Neural interfaces are used to mitigate the burden of traumatic injuries, neurodegenerative diseases, and mental disorders. However, the transient or permanent placement of an interface in close contact with the neural tissue requires invasive surgery, pote ...

One-dimensional models of the systemic arterial tree are useful tools for studying wave propagation phenomena, however, their formulation for frictional losses is approximate and often based on solutions for developed flow in straight non-tapered arterial ...

Glaucoma results in an increase in the resistance of the aqueous humor outflow, which in turn leads to an increase of the intraocular pressure (IOP). Several treatments are proposed to reduce and stabilize the IOP that include medications, filtering surger ...

At a time of growing concern over the ethics of animal experimentation, mouse models are still an indispensable source of insight into the cardiovascular system and its most frequent pathologies. Nevertheless, reference data on the murine cardiovascular an ...

The numerical tools to simulate blood flow in the cardiovascular system are constantly developing due to the great clinical interest and to scientific advances in mathematical models and computational power. The present work aims to address and validate ne ...

Interest in patient-specific blood-flow circulation modeling has increased substantially in recent years. The availability of clinical data for geometric and elastic properties together with efficient numerical methods has now made model rendering feasible ...

To evaluate the haemodynamic changes induced by flow diversion treatment in cerebral aneurysms, resulting in thrombosis or persisting aneurysm patency over time. Eight patients with aneurysms at the para-ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery we ...

Introduction: The ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI), derived from ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) recordings, has been proposed as a surrogate marker of arterial stiffness. However, there is controversy to what extent it reflects stiff ...
